F6F-3
« on: July 26, 2011, 11:32:02 PM »
You'd lose all the things we take for granted in the -5 and get:
-Slower rate of roll (most speeds) due to lack of aileron tabs
-Unmodified windscreen
-A more fragile tail section
-Reduced cockpit armor
-A-G ord reduced/eliminated.
-Original cowling (4mph slower than the -5)

This would be offset by: Cooler skins, a slightly better six view (!!!!) higher ENY and the satisfaction of knowing that Greebo is accumulating perk points he may never use faster than ever before!  :D

Preferably a late -3 model with the R-2800-10W engine (WEP)

Dam kids.

I'm going to express my feelings and say I'm enjoying this shuffle.

Agreed, except for this point:

It would be better to have the earlier engine so as to better differentiate it from the F6F-5.

I'd have thought if HTC were likely to introduce it, they would not have let me skin F6F-3 schemes on the F6F-5. The F6F-3 entered service in Feb 43, the F6F-5 in mid 44.

Although first combat was not until September.
Ron White says you can't fix stupid. I beg to differ. Stupid will usually sort itself out, it's just a matter of making sure you're not close enough to become collateral damage.

First F6F kill was September 1, a Kawanishi H8K flying boat was shot down by Richard Loesch of VF-6.

Ah, unfortunately this makes sense... I still would still appreciate a marginally better 6 view.   :pray
