Officer and compact .45's do well as carry guns much of the time.  I have a Kimber myself that I like but there are times where it's just too big or heavy to carry without printing.  Enter the Sig P238, 1911 function, .380 size.  It works nearly exactly the same and if you operate the Sig like you do the Kimber you run into no issues.  The Sig does a few things the Kimber won't do when it comes to manual of arms but as I mentioned, treat it like the 1911 from a training stand point and you'll have no faults.

I like that SIG.  That may be something I look into for my next purchase.  I like that it operates like a 1911.  How many 380 rounds can you cram into the mag?

6+1.  I carry a second magazine on my weak side just the same as I do when I carry the 1911.  Total loadout is 15 .45ACP rounds, 13 .380 rounds.  You don't even know you're wearing the Sig, it's just that light.

Nice.

I picked up a Judge out of curiosity.  Thinking that maybe the simplicity of a revolver might be more to my wife's liking.

It is similar in size to the 45 Officers, but a little thicker.

I'm not quite sold on it though.  It will shoot the 45 long colt, but if I want a 45 I'll carry a 1911.  The .410 shotgun shells are impressive at very close ranges, but less so as you move the target farther away.  I recently put some of the PDX shells through it and they are definitely better...  Just not sold on it.

Funny thing is, the Judge kicks fairly hard and my wife prefers the Taurus PT92 instead.  Maybe I will sell the Judge one of these days.

On the SIG, I don't see the grip safety like a 1911...  Do you carry that Condition 1, cocked and locked like a 1911 or hammer down?

Cocked and locked.  It's single action only and it has a thumb safety that works slightly different from the 1911.  It won't actually go up into a recess in the slide locking it in place but it is a proper safety.  The main difference (and why if you treat the P238 like a 1911, you'll never get confused) is that with the safety on, the P238 will allow you to rack the slide.
