Not related to AH, but hopefully someone here knows what I've done. I was having trouble with my ISP and they said it was my browsers fault and got me to do a bunch of stuff that I had no idea what I was doing, now when I log into anything like the BBS, photobucket, facebook and all other BBS I have to log in I click remember me, but if I close it down and re-open it I have to log in again, not a big deal but annoying and I know very little about computers. Also just noticed the animated smilies are not moving?
Ok, in web browsers you have a thing called a "cookie". A cookie is a small text file that some web pages will send to your computer along with the web page. The web browser will store this text file on your computer. The next time you go to that web site, it will ask your computer for the cookie. This way the web site knows if you have visited them recently. This is how certain sites know you, and will automatically log you in.
When you called your ISP, one of the things they did was to turn cookies off, your browser won't store them any longer. So now, when you connect to facebook, for example, it asks for the cookie, and you don't have one. So the site doesn't know it's you, and can't log you in automatically.
When you installed Firefox, Firefox hadn't been told not to store cookies, so it went ahead and stored them.
If you are using your browser for anything financial, online banking, etc, you should never let the system log you on automatically. Always enter a password manually. Otherwise, anyone who can get on your computer has full access to all your financials.
