Having a low score does not necessarily mean you are "manipulating" anything - it simply means you are actively participating in the four basic disciplines of the game - fighter, attack, bomber and GV.  I myself usually achieve a pretty reasonable overall score, but am far from being a good fighter pilot - I just get bored doing the same thing over and over and enjoy all aspects of the game.  Am I a score potato - absolutely :rock.  Score gives me a broad gauge for my own personal improvement, however I do pay closer attention to my K/D (I do not fly conservative, I just like to get home) and hit percentage.

Many overall high scorers have a handful or two sorties in specific areas, giving them a high ranking.  Somtimes they have less than a handful, perhaps only 1 or 2 sorties, and the system gives them a high ranking in that area.  They keep it that way throughout the campaign to add to their overall score.

A high ranking is nice for CV control.  Landing is important for perks.  If neither of these two were in the game, I think a lot of us wouldn't spend 10 minutes flying back to a base to land when we could just ditch or auger for a new plane. :)

I always paid more attention to my hit % more then anything else. If I could hold a 7 or 8 percent in fighter mode (without buff hunting to do it), I was happy. The rest of the stats are just nonsense IMO.

I forget the scores even exist. >.>

If I cared I wouldn't be the lone D.A. upping over and over from a capped field.

The cool thing about that is this: Normally after 4 or 5 tries, I manage to get in the air.

Once I'm in the air, the enemy breaks off to chase me, and friendlies up. The base remains ours.

Who cares about score? Only the top score ho's look at it most of the time anyway. ;)

Play for fun.

Like, ya know, when that thing that makes you move, it has pistons and things, When your thingamajigy is providing power, you do not hear other peoples thingamajig when they are providing power.

I was exactly like that for years, I changed that though, certainly not for score, I got sick of giving the vulchers free kills,  I knew that with comparative E I could give any of them a fight, I want them to EARN there INK scalp.....so The only thing I changed in my flying was to up from a field,  a sector from the one they were vulching, well come to find out, not only could I give them a fight, but I could actually kill them :t

I would respond, but....ok I will.

Treat the zero condition as a special case. Maybe show the player "undefeated" or something. I don't know
Just add a 1 to the zero or skip the divide if zero. Granted, the more you die the less difference it makes. But, if you only die a few times, it makes a difference.

EDIT: Also, maybe it's this way already, I don't know. But, maybe score the shooting down of a bomber MORE than the shooting down of a fighter. That's how the Luftwaffe did it. I think they considered a buff kill as 3x a fighter kill...points wise that is. Not number of kills.

It would be easier to make the "1" death you start out with as ".0000000000001", and round the result off to the nearest .01.

I do like for the most part the formula for fighter rankings but I would like to see one little tweak...  factor in somehow a reward for flying high ENY planes vs low ENY planes.

+1   :aok

Into the scores not points of course.
