Mossie Help
« on: August 24, 2011, 08:09:14 PM »
I dont know if there are any trainers that specialize in the Mossie VI but she has become by far my plane of choice and would like to pick up a few tips and tricks.

Thanks

BatfinkV is far, far better than I am, but I'll give what I can.

1) 50% fuel or 25% + DTs unless you know you are going a long, long ways. 100% fuel on the Mosquito is about 3,500lbs of fuel.
2) Rockets are very draggy and they leave very draggy rails behind, don't take them unless you really want them and don't mind shaving 10-15mph off your top speed.

The Mosquito is about speed and anything you clutter up the airframe with costs you speed.  The shackles for the external 500lb bombs cost you 4mph after the bombs are gone.  I don't know about the DT shackles(I always take 50% fuel), but I think they may be the same.

The Mosquito's WEP is very potent, use it, but be aggressive while you have it.  Short snapshots from the Mossie will end fights.  She does not turn terribly well, but she does handle the vertical pretty well.  Use yo-yos to cut inside of better turning aircraft.

I'll post more if I have time or if you have specific situations you'd like to discuss.

I can offer you my old 5 chapters guide to the mosquito:
http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php/topic,206568.0.html

It was originally written as an elaborate rant about a bug in the flight model and the choice of modeling the mosquito with flame dampers, both of which are irrelevant to the current Mossie VI. So ignore the remarks about the "center of gravity" and flame dampers. The rest of it is still pretty much valid.

Other important things that were changed in the new graphic model:
* The beer cooler is gone - it used to be behind the barman-navigator, but now there is some useless radio equipment there. The real use for the new radio is to contact HQ and complain that your beer is warm. I mean, how will the RAF beat the LW if it can't even keep the beer cool?

* The speaker in the ceiling has been moved back and changed in shape - this really lowers the fidelity in the high pitch sounds. The coolest thing that mosquitoes could do in WWII was to play Vagner's "Ride of the Valkyries" in full volume in the cockpit while bombing the sucker's home town.
Mosquito VI - twice the spitfire, four times the ENY.

Well, it doesn't burst into flame anymore either.  That was fixed when the CoG problem was fixed, and it was generally toughed as well.

It is also now the 13th fastest prop aircraft on the deck in AH rather than the 28th.

Edit:

From your list of aircraft that would out run you:

109G/K
190A/F/D
P51
Spit8/16/14
La7
Ki84
F4U

It is now parred down to:

109K
190D
P51
Spit14
La7
F4U4

Course, add:

Typhoon
P-47N/M
