soundcard issues
« on: August 27, 2011, 11:13:51 AM »
I have a Sb Audigy 2 ZS, I have run the game with headphones for years and now I have a room of my own to hook up my 5 speeker 1 sub Creative Inspire p5800. I'm having issues and I think I have come to the conclusion that the soundcard ( or just 2 of the 3 jacks) is bad. I get sound through all 3 plugs when I rotate them through the 3rd jack in the soundcard. The other 2 on the left (or top of the card) make no sound but I do get some plug in feedback when pluging them in. The 2 jacks to the right are silent as well and from what I can tell are for the mic and headphones anyway. I have looked to make sure everything else works. All speekers work when the proper plug (through the sub) is pluged into the 3rd jack on the card. I have looked in the pc for anything out of place in the soundcards setup. And in audio devices.. so befor I yank the card and buy a new one any suggestions? You think I'm right? A note about me, I don't know jack about pc's. And it all worked fine a long time ago so I know the card does support it and works with it. Everything was just unpluged and stored safely away during the time I was forced to use the headset. As stated b4 all parts work through the one jack when pluged in. I have 3 plugs from the sub to the soundacrd. All 3 are good only in the one jack.

I had the same issue on another build.  and it never went away even with a new sound card.  soundblaster has lots of problems with some individual systems, it's all over the internet even their "new" drivers (old by now) didnt help.  I dont know why it wouldnt work on my prior system but works on this one using the exact same  card and speakers.  even moving the card to a different slot didnt help.  If I may suggest get a replacement card from bestbuy or  similar store where you can return it.

And you're sure you had your audio mode set to 5.1, not stereo or 2.1?

Ya I got it fixed.. it was some issue (even now I'm not sure) with software.. I got a different sound card from best buy. It to did the same thing... then I put the old one back in and in doing so it asked me to recalibrate the speakers. In doing so I got them all to work. Thanks anyway, I always need all the help I can get.
