I thought i was the only one that posted stupid comments.  you do know that in ww2 the il2 was designed to kill tanks, right?  that was their basic job.

I just saw fester land an 8 kill run in one flight with an IL2. one kill being a fighter. The IL2s fine <S>

have 166 kills atm in il2 and many are airplanes  :joystick:

removing external view made the il2 a more immersive and fun aircraft as you have to remember and predict where the enemy planes and tanks are half the time when you can not see them.

Il2 is sitting duck to anyone patient enough not to get nailed in an overshoot but fortunately a lot of fighters get so excited to see a low il2. They get confused when the il2 slips and skids a few feet out of their gunfire and then when they overshoot right next to the il2 sometimes the stars align and 37mm makes them contemplate their actions back in the tower.

thin roofed tanks are best for cannons. Panzer and panther with only 16mm blow up nicely in a good semi vertical top turret attack. all M4's and t34s are bastards to kill with all the ricochets.

Tiger1 and tiger 2 with 40mm roof armor... pft forget it dont bother except on tiger 1 hit engine top deck thats about it.

steer clear of flaks if they are looking at you. il2 slow ez target.

rs82/132 rockets are HE use them on light targets. they suck. the real ones sucked too.

drop all 100lb bombs at once they have small blast radius unlike the 1000lb "IhazSkillz" tard bomb.
Fester was my in game name until September 2013

Indeed.  The only real viable rocket to use vs tanks is the 190F-8's Pb1 rockets.  They are the only rocket in AH that were meant for anti-armor use.  The British 3in/60lb rockets have a "SAP" (semi-armor piercing) warhead, but they are a distant second to the German Pb1 rockets.  HE rockets may throw a tread, but otherwise they are best used vs OBJ and lightly armored gv's.

The Soviet RS82 and RS132 are HE, as are the US 4.5in and 5in HVAR rockets.  FYI: The British 3in/60lb rockets do the most damage to OBJ w/ 180lbs of damage or do.

The real problem is that other aircraft exactly like the IL2, rear gunner/bomb bay, were left with an F3 view. So one has to ask why was the IL2 singled out ? Most of all since its regular views are pretty bad. Im talking what ? The A-20 most of all, the TBM?, The SBD, DC3?, B5N2? B-25H? the 110s, the Stuka?

The only reason I can figure that makes sense is the years of endless colossal whines, "Waaa they keep killing my tanks". And almost all these tanks kilt were ones attacking air bases so that makes the whines even more pitiful. And no doubt the "Im a great tanker cause I camp spawns all the time" crowd had a waaa in it too. Many take it personal when an aircraft kills a spawning tank before they can, while IT IS spawning to attack an air base.

At Vbase battles the IL2 has always been an almost non-player. Its to slow, to far to fly, and you'd just be dead meat to a fighter who has an ounce of skill. To say the IL2 with F3 made it to effective a AtA fighter is laughable. Its like flying a bath tub with wings. It had some use zinging around slinging pumpkins at vulchers but if you get kilt while vulching you dont have the right to whine.

Just glancing at the stats I'd say two patterns have emerged. #1 is that far less are even flying the IL2 now. #2 is that far less are upping them at contested air bases where there is a lot of enemy presence. Thats why P-51D kills in it went from 151 to 31. Everyone knows its now crow bait if theres a lot of red around it.

F3 was removed, as your stats support, because it was being used as a dogfighting exploit. While tank kills have dropped, by about 50%, air to air kills have dropped precipitously, probably due to unavailability when fighter hangers go down as much as the loss of F3.

It was more the "waaaa waaa" about getting shot down in a plane than getting killed in a tank.

That was the official exuse. But really who, at least anyone with an ounce of fighter skill, really worried about mixing it up with an IL2? Even with F3 ? Look at all the air kills of fighters the A-20 gets http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/newscores/pkd.php?type=0&selectTour=LWTour138&pindex=68 . Even more then the IL2 used to. There was only one player who used the IL2 quasi-effectively against other fighters and that was GHI. Even with him, and I know he's a fine stick, you have to be a real boner to get your spit shot down by him.

Unless your vulching or spin fighting near an airstrip. Even then its your own fault for not evading our outrunning the bath tub with wings. When ou own an enemy so completely in verticle/turning/speed/acceleration what possibly reason could you have to get shot down? Even with F3? Heck in an air fight with a fighter I'd much rather be in an A-20. At least you have some verticle and speed, let alone nose MGs. Thats why it posts K/Ds in the 1.31 range.
