Salute Semp. (Pigs Rock)
I upped a formation of 29's on Sunday night and flew nearly all the way around the map. After 2 hours of flight, on my return to base I called for gunner on Pig channel.
Semp stepped up.
We were out an engine on the primary bird and the secondary bird...bird 3 was still full up. We were low on fuel, with well over 150 miles to get home.
I had the RPM to 22 and Manifold at 35...nursing it in..ground speed 275 and altitude 16k under the scud layer...we dropped on two more bases after he joined.
Semp got a kill about 75 miles from home...couple of quick bursts on the 20mm tail got him...
35 miles out, and with only 7 minutes of fuel left we rolled the dice and took a cut in the hills to try landing 88.
The same guy Semp killed the first time came back while we were trying to coast home in the cut. Semp killed him AGAIN..
Whew....but...with the field barely in sight...the engines cut...
After a short right cross controlled dead stick approach...all three 29's were returned to the hanger.
