Are you using an externally powered USB hub?  You should be as there is only one USB hub in that computer and with the USB devices you have, I can easily see the power of the bus being brought too low causing a flood of USB device change messages to be sent to the game from the operating system.

Only happens with Windows 7, 64 bit.  The 32 bit version does not do it, nor does any other Microsoft OS.

That is just a guess, but it is the common thread in random game crashes, here of late.  Almost all are 64 bit Windows 7 systems with a gaggle of USB devices connected, with no externally powered USB hub.

By the way, once the game has an abnormal crash, there is a good chance it will continue to happen as there is a possibility for a config file to get corrupted.  Nothing we can do about that one.  Just move the 'settings' folder out of the way and see if it continues.

I am using a powered USB hub for my stick and pedals.  But I will eliminate as many other USB devices as I can and see if that helps.  Sorry if I am dense, but when you say, "just move the settings folder out of the way and see if it continues", do you mean to pull that folder out of the Aces High folder?  If so, am I to assume that the game will replace it automatically when I start it if it is missing?  And does that mean I have to re-do all of my head positions etc?

Thanks

Rename the 'settings' folder so you can test.  If the problem persists, then you can restore the folder back.  It is a fast way to test the possibility of something being corrupted.

If you already have an externally powered USB hub, then I would think there is something else going on.  Probably driver related, but let me dig some more.

Dave,

Try this. Go to Control panel, then select Hardware and sound. Choose "Change Sounds". Under change sounds select communication. From there select reduce other sounds by 80%. This is preliminary but I flew 4 hours with no issues. I thought mine was sound related since it was running so smoothly without a mic and then started having issues once the mic was plugged in.

There's no hardware accelerator in W7 from what I can tell. Certainly not in Dxdiag. If someone can add to that please let me know.

IDK if this is YOUR issue with Nvidia, but mine was doing same thing when I installed the newer drivers.
I had to roll back drivers to stop crashing. I verified problem by reinstalling new drivers, got same issues.
So, seems to me newer Nvidia drivers are causing crash "Ah exe stopped working".
I would play for a bit then I would get "Disabling Advanced Graphics".
Now, with older drivers, no issues at all.

Most of the time is is not wise to update video card drivers once your particular video card has been replaced by a next generation model.  Both ATI and NVidia optimize drivers for the latest generation of video cards, and on occasion, it can produce problems with older cards.

Absolutely agree, seems to be what caused my issues. As stated before, as soon as I
rolled back/reinstalled older version all issues disapeared.

I still got disconnected last night after playing several hours. I think it's because I have a weather indicator on my desktop. When it updated I crashed. Well that's my theory for now. However reducing the sound noise helped and I think I need to make some other adjustments to the sound. One thing is my game play was just super smooth last night and the red guys suffered. <G>

I haven't installed the newer drivers.  I did unplug all of the extra USB devices, leaving my stick and pedals on the externally powered hub.  I haven't crashed since, but I'm keeping the jury out for awhile to be certain.
