any advice on this laptop
« on: October 09, 2011, 10:11:20 AM »
I'm shopping for a laptop and getting confused.  This is what I came up with http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=

my criteria was that it have a videocard and on this http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/high_end_gpus.html
table the vid card on this laptop seemed to the best for laptops in this price range.
I don't know how to make a valid comparison between the i5 i7 and amd processors, i can't even tell when i7 means quad core or whether that really will make any difference to me.

I want to run AH and use my cad on it.  I think it is such a step up from the Dell inspiron im using now that I will be happy with the performance.  What I would like to know is if it is a good laptop for the money or if there is something markedly better for the same or lower price.  BTW for 50 dollars more you can get 6gig instead of 4.

thanks for any help

that's a tough call. the mobile graphics chips in laptops don't perform as well as graphics cards in desktops, some high end gaming laptops can get great performance.

definately stick with the intel cpu for your laptop, especially if you're going to play ah on it. get as much ram as you can, 4gb on a windows laptop is about like 2.5gb on a desktop with all the laptop specific drivers/utilities that can't/shouldn't be disabled.

there are 1 or 2 guys here that have high end asus laptops that are running ah very well.
