Once i learned the basics of flight and fight, the main thing that kept me hooked to the game was social aspect of it in the form of wingmen and formations.  Some of things we experienced, i still laugh at to this day.

Here are a few examples.

Screaming in, like at 600 diving on some cons. After the pass still doing like 500
MiAMiACE: "Perdue is that smoke coming out of your engine?"
Perdue: " umm... $#$@# engine 2 is out...Should i go home? "

Just taking off in a couple La-7s on the deck doing like 300 side by side.
MiAMiACE: "Perdue watch out for the tank right in front of us."
I swerve a little, he continues to straight on
Perdue: "$#$!@ i just got killed by a tank while in fighter mode"

I also remember being in the middle of nowhere, by ourselves with never enough gas plus cons... and figuring out how to make it back home. No one was ever left behind. When you did get left behind you already knew it was your choice.

Was left behind many times in 163's. "Just one more." Remember the LA sortie? :

Miami: "dude, you cant bring him at a HO, u gotta do something"
Perdue: "Here goes" (pulls up into a loop)
Miami: "Oh My God dude" (explosion) "that was f%^*$#g sweet, we're low on fuel lets boogie"

Later that sortie we fought a few spits over the lake.

I learned how to play this game in those days.

I think it's time to get back in the game bro.
