In the Market for a new Stick
« on: September 22, 2011, 11:58:09 AM »
Well it looks like my X-52 Pro had died, so I'm looking for recommendations for a similar setup.  I was looking at the Thrustmaster Cougar, or a CH stick of some kind.  I'm just not sure about the CH sticks.  Are they twisty? and do I have to buy the throttle and stick separate?  Im looking for something under $200

CH sticks ARE NOT twistys. They do have a throttle wheel tho.

Ok thanks.  Does thrustmaster still make the cougar?  Ive looked in a few different places and cant find any, all I can find is the warthog.

you only going to be able to get one "second hand" whether it is used or new...... thrustmaster?the other company name, does not offer the cougar anymore

I had a deal with a fellow AH Player, who had promised me his cougar setup, and was waiting for it, but then that AH player started ignoring my PM's ,so guess that is that..... <shakes head>

I am still looking/wanting one myself.......( and the whole shebang   cougar stick/throttle HOTAS etc )

good luck on your endeavor!

the warthog is the replacement for the cougar. took a long time to get it to retail.

if you want a thrustmaster (guillemot) that is durable and the choice between twisty or something else...

You can get the Fighterstick and the rudder pedals for just about $200.  Use the throttle wheel on the stick until Xmas, then ask Santa for the throttle to complete the setup.   :)

I was seriously thinking about this.  All in all its an excuse to actually get rudder pedals which i have wanted for a long time now.  I assume theres no way to make my X-52 throttle work with the fighterstick?

Your x52 throttle will work with the ch stick and pedals (they all use different usb connections). Thats what I'm currently using, ch stick, x52 throttle and pedals.

Is there any major difference between the Fighterstick and the Combatstick 568 besides price, and number of buttons?  The Combatstick is around $30 cheaper, and I'm looking to save wherever I can and still get a quality stick.

I , myself, have used both..... and I strongly prefer the Fighter Stick with the extra hats. each hat gives you more than just a single button!

trying to go back and use my "Emergency Back Up" combat stick on another PC ( or even my reg pc ) just gives me a fit after having used the Fighter stick for many a year....

now if you have never used the Fighter Stick, then you would not have such a situation......

hope this helps

Yes you're on the right track.  The X52 throttle will work on its own.  Then you install the CH stick and some pedals and you're good to go!  Personally I'm not a fan of the feel of the CH stick but that's just personal preference.  I do know that they are very precise and very well built.

As far as pedals.. well it's a long debate on CH pedals vs. Saitek pedals.  They both cost about the same and are both of good quality but the CH pedals tend to be more narrow and the Saitek pedals more wide.  If you have a wide stance you may find the CH pedals to be a bit on the uncomfortable side.

Provantage?  didn't see where Cryptic posted,  but Provantage usually has the lowest price for CH Gear, with a few Special offers from other online stores every once and a while.......

be careful provantage tends to be a little high in the shipping.  Make sure you compare apples to apples.

For example on the CH Fighterstick Provantage has it for $99.28.  It's an additional $6.95 for shipping (to Missouri where I live) for a total of $106.23

Amazon.com has that same exact stick for $98.96 with free shipping CLICK HERE.  That's a savings of $7.27 (almost 7%).  I also noticed their pedals seem to be very high on shipping too.

Just letting you know!
