Gunsights?
« on: September 21, 2011, 11:04:39 PM »
I have downloaded and installed a player submitted gunsight to the "sights" folder in my AHII file. In the folder, I can see the sight perfectly, but in game, I see a blue screen (as if alpha is turned up to max).  Any ideas on this?

Thanks

Be sure you saved the gunsight as 256-color Bitmap. Certain types of file can break the Transparency Layer on gunsights and cause such issues. Then again, if the maker didn't make/upload it in that format it may simply not work. Possible it's something else but that's the first thing that comes to mind.

I'm thinking either your folder name was changed, or the file names were changed from what's listed in your settings...  It sounds like a display error in that the file isn't there, not a misrepresentation of the file.  Try opening up the sights preferences in game and see if you can see any of them. *shrug*

Well, as for the maker, he is actually using the same sight on every plane he flies, so it has to be something on my end (and a few other squaddies that have tried to use it.)

The sight is listed in game with the name I save it as in the folder, so I would believe that it is the correct folder. I, however, do not know if there is something corrupt in the file causing this.  I do have other player made sights that do work in game, so I am at a loss.

Thanks for the suggestions, I appreciate any help as I am at a loss.

I had the same problem when i made a gunsight for me and some squaddies came to find out that if you try to copy or save file already posted on the net it didnt work but if the guy who made it emails you an attached copy of the original it should work. I dont know why but it does and thats how we got it to work  :salute

Most sites will not host a .bmp file because they tend to get big. So what happens is when you upload a .bmp file to to say Photobucket, they will change it to a .jpeg automatically. So if you pulled the site off a BBS page, or some storage site it is most likely saved a something other than a .bmp and that is why you have the problem.

Either use an art program to open and resave the picture as a .bmp, or have your friend email you a copy of the original.

If the file format is correct, one other thing that I have discovered from skins.  Under properties of the file make sure that you don't get some weird warning like I was getting:  This file came from another computer ...blah, blah, blah.... do you wish to unblock blah, blah, blah....

I had to unblock files that I had downloaded from the HTC web link.  I think that it was some security option that I was using that initiated the problem.  :headscratch:
