A big SALUTE :salute to Rolling Thunder for taking my invitation to come party in the AVA tonight. I hope you gents had fun and I sincerely hope you make it a weekly gathering in the AVA. :aok

Way

<<S>> Way and the AVA. Had a lot of fun, nice change of pace from the main,

I thought that the availability of Spits at the front made them far too common and made the setup a little lopsided.

I was in a jug about half the time but had to switch to a Spit after the Axis got the numerical advantage, which was for most of the time. That's my excuse anyway :)

The quality of the fights was a bit better.  I was HO'd a number of times, but most of them were of the passing in the furball type (which I consider ok) and not the fly straight at the other guy to try and shoot him in the face type.  The ganging was pretty bad, on both sides.  But I guess it isn't the DA, so nobody should expect a 1vs1.

Some hoing I guess but not too much. I was on the wrong side of a lot of 2v1s and 4v2s as axis actually. But then more friendlies would show up and it would swing the other way. Since the fighting was in such a small area it's always going to change like that.

For my part I stayed out of 1v1s, noticed other guys were doing that too for the most part.

Fun stuff.
You are in a maze of twisty little passages, all alike.

Ya Grumpy I have been away from the AVA for a while and last night was my first time really flying in there the whole time in almost 2 months. I had a blast last night and even tho bombed while having a pretty good Gv fight going with watching Way sneak around the Bridge and hit him as he hit BC was fun then Driving up onto JP, Ham ya had some pretty good 1 shot kills on my Tiger last night and had me wondering about them lol every time I get into a usually perked vehicle in other arena's  the same thing happens when I am thinking I am in one of the more stronger vehicles of the Game think I will stick to my panzer but I like the Zoom features in the Tiger my eyes are starting to go these days.

Salute to the Pigs and Rolling Thunder fun times last night maybe I may pop in late tonight again for a bit

I originally ran up the hill you were on to flank BC the first time he was up there raining shells on the field.  I got him after some maneuvering and shutting down repeatedly to find him and where he was going.  Then I hear him up on the spawn behind me right after I shot him so I spun around and headed towards the bridge to spot him and setup another flank shot.  As I am listening to him heading through the trees with no vis, I hear a 2nd Tiger up from another spawn behind me.  EEEEK which one do I go for?  Anyway the question was answered when I finally got a glimpse of him and was able to hit him about 600 yards out in the flank.  I turn to get back into position for the second Tiger and THE BIGGEST FASTEST LOUDEST cannon shot I ever saw goes right over my turret!  Uh-oh...The second shot a few seconds later gave me a beautiful view from the tower.   Is this what heaven is like?  LOL  Too fun Sir!

I'm kind of glad this was brought up.

It was a weird vibe in the AvA.  There were a few folks who went out of their way to be friendly and welcoming, which was pleasant.  Then there was also, from others, an underlying "we're better then you mere MA people, we're the real elite of Aces High" vibe that was somewhat offputting.  It's difficult to describe, and possibly somewhat colored by my past experiences in the AvA, but that was the vibe that I felt.  If it was my imagination, colored by my past experiences, then I don't know how you guys are going to overcome it in the future.  One suggestion might be to make an effort not to convey that same vibe here in the AvA forum, which if you read some of the threads you will see that it is pretty common.

I’m glad I didn’t feel this or see it or experience it I would have comented in the arena.... I did hear some squawking about the spits and ganging but heck the spit nine was a big player in husky, with out it the 109 would have dominated. and at 3k icons that close its to be expected.. The comments I did see were not from the current AVA regulars... for the record ... :)

I also think that the AvA staff needs to be very careful with their map set ups in relation to the population that you are drawing.  While last nights set up worked fairly well with 30ish pilots, I think that with 60 or 90 pilots you would find a condition as bad or worse then the MA.  Overcrowding such a compact front will get ugly quickly.  There were glimpses of the back and forth gang banging last night.

I agree. Its a balancing act.. in spite of the design and objective the players chose to keep the fight at the front.. all we can do is set the table.. that said the entire island of Sicily and Malta was enabled.
My hope was that some of the organized squads would have made a run on Sicily and taken bases... The set up more than compensated for 60 players with all those baes enabled.. I was going to move the allied southern base to spread out the fight but I wanted to experiment and let nature have is way and give guys a chance to gain territory.. never happened.. was a good test...

I did shorten Icons from 3k to 2k as folks were staying at the close bases.. that compensated and that calmed down allot of the ganging and picking almost immediately as it was easer to evade.. ...Had i taken that southern allied base out of action it would have spread the fight out a bit,I wanted to nuke it.. I almost did....But I was hands off most of the night as I tested .. Dont worry I was taking notes.. :D

I also think that your gameplay will grow stale quickly if nobody seems interested in actually trying to complete the objectives called for by the set up.  I was flying Axis for the 2.5 hours I was in the AvA last evening.  While I was there, there really were no credible attempts by the Allied side to capture fields that I saw.  I'm not sure what the answer to this problem is, but not solving it risks making the AvA the WW2 equivelent of the WW1 Arena.  Furball until bored, log off.  We can all see how that has turned out so far.

You can lead a horse to water but... like we said all we can do is set the table... I think once folks get a handle on some of the set up concepts that we are doing like rolling plane sets ect objective play will catch on more and more over time..  As the population grows it has always been the plan to scale things to fit the player base... ;)

I hope that you guys will take all of my comments in stride.  I think you have the potential for a good thing in the AvA.  We were asked to give input.  I'm trying to be as open and honest about my perceptions as possible.  Not to attack, but only to help.

Thank you very much Sir.. Your coments are valued and apresiated thanks for the input and your partisipation...

I did shorten Icons from 3k to 2k

I'm curious what time you did this?  It must have been after I left (about 9:30pm CST).

Make no mistake, shortening the icons too much will run off a large percentage of the people you hope to attract.  Myself included.

It was  weird I took point blank  flank shots from tigers 3 times  last night in a sherman, then just shot  back thinking "well atleast Ill scratch the paint" and  actually got the  kill  did you hit me  low on the tracks or something? And where did you go the last time ya killed me? when you fired a downward shot as I crested a lower ridge?  I drove  around for 45 mins looking for you  then just charged the  17 lbs out of boredome lol Yeha  I neve rup a perked tank  just Panzer or Sherman . If Im in the MA its always the panzer Ive got its sights and the  guns tendencies down pretty well. I dont knwo the shermAn all that well ad it cost me once on bc.  He crested a  ridge and I had a pretty good  position  but when I fired I missed him   and proceded to miss about 4 more times   he didnt knwo where i was at but once he did he  quickly killed me.

I know the first time I got you I was up high and took 2 hits to get you due to you being on the flats down below and I was up on the ridge then as soon as you spawned back in I fire saw the hit but then was towered right after that, other then that they were cool fights last night
