Ever seen this happen?
« on: May 19, 2000, 09:00:00 AM »
Today I filmed a fite between me and a spit (who was very warpy btw) and after a nice long tracking shot, saw the spit lose a full wing and begin to lose oil AND fuel.  As I saw him spiral down, I waited above him for the kill message and then magically at about 200 AGL the spit leveled out and began to run.

I dive back down on him and give chase in me Nik.  I chase him for 2 minutes before I finally catch him.  He begins some hard evasions which should not have been possible without a wing.  Additionally, his engine shoulda shut down long ago...he was still full steam.

You all ever see this before?  Is this due to a bad connect on his part?  Without raising a conspriacy theory, is there a way to filter out damage so that you could <gasp> cheat?

Just was the strangest thing I think I have ever seen online.

What a great idea...how can I program 'add new wing' to my stick?

Its a trick that the British engineers used to give the Spitfire that extra edge in combat...

I too was seeing things like this last night, but in my case I think it was due to network traffic.  Traceroutes to HTC showed packet loss and long ping times, which may be the case for you as well.

What I was seeing was things like bullets seeming to pass through planes, planes jumping from side to side when they started to manuver, and massive warps of planes from your 12 (in one case) all the way to my 6.  Needless to say I logged off pretty frustrated.

Don't be too surprised if connects stay bad for a couple days, there's a new (and much worse) version of the LoveBug.vbs script out flooding servers with traffic.  (Careful guys, this one can pretend to be any type of file, and will attempt to delete EVERY file on your hard drive, along with EVERY file of any shared or network drive.  Our network guys have decided to delete ALL forwarded messages for the next 3 days.   )

Yep, this happened to me yesterday.

I was flying a B17 at 15k above A15. Luma (I think was his name) was trying to catch up in a 109. He come DEAD on my 6, I think hmmm easy kill. I open up on him when he reaches 1.0k on my RE. I blow both his wings off, is tail off, I watch his engine die, and not only that he had 2 fires coming out of his tail. So I went back to the cockpit, thinking that the 109 went down (which he should have). I then here PING PING PING, so I jump to the tail guns. THERE WAS THAT DAMN 109, STILL ON FIRE, AND WITH NO WINGS OR TAIL. He's sitting there shooting at me. I think WHAT THE HELL. So I open up with the tail guns and top turret. I had 500 rounds in my tail guns at that point. I used 500 rounds on him. He's still flying. I said WHAT THE ****! So I open up with the top and ball turrets. Run those out of ammo. Hes still shooting at me. After he poured about 30 cannon rounds into me, I blew up. Yet he kept flying with no wings and no tail. I did get one pic of it, just before I blew up. Total time of the fight was about 3 mins. I wasn't that mad though, but it did kinda piss me off.

This happens, it's a net thingy and with todays lines (equipment) it is hard to really stop. You see it from time to time. I just sorta fly a like a I'd never try to fly in the real world. I have fun...

There is so much lag that when I'm in a gunner position I don't stop shooting at the guy till he blows up or spins away.  Also, when breaking off from attacking a buff I always take evasive action, no matter how badly shot up he is.  I've been shot down by a lot of tumbling buffs.

Ya, really weird things like this have been happening this past week. I now keep hitting them way after they explode. And it always is the same people. Hate to say this but one guy admitted to Downloading MP3's while playing ( after everyone was complaining about his connect) We just need more honest people. I think Most people are Honest in here, but you will always have the selected few who will do ANYTHING to win.

I believe this problem is part of our crappy internet.  The way it was explained to me is that due to lag and such you shoot the bad guy on your front end but since packets start missing during internet spasams, either the packets from your FE to the host dropped out or from the host to his FE dropped out. All your FE knows is that you hit him and shows wings etc off while his may clearly show no wing missing (since the info to his FE telling his wing to seperate never got to him) after that you basicly have 2 views going on yours and his FE which do not match  ...since his FE is still flying ok and keeps updating position to you  ..You will see a damaged plane flying without wings etc.  I had this same thing happen in WB and after talking with the other guy he never knew he was hit(no damage) while I saw him wingless still dogfighting.
