Hangtime, theres no way in hell I'm reading all that sh*t! <g,d,r>

hblair's simple man's proposal,

Same planes cold guns coalt merge at agreed altitude. Best out of 5. Loser AND Winner send in report. If they are in agreement on the results, thats all she wrote.

Defts system allowed anyone to challenge anyone.

You were NOT limited to challenging just a few rungs above you.

Your ladder position is determined by player Ratings. He used the rating system of the USCF (united states Chess federation)

Those with High win to death ratios were higer rated pilots, and defeating a higher rated pilot would result in moving up more rungs on the ladder.

I've been in ladders that limit who you can challenge and it doesn't work well since you have inactive and unresponsive players who hold you back.

Well I like Hangs setup for plane. But I also prefer hblairs best of 5. So 2 sorties challenger picks plane, 2 sorties defender picks, and last one is a wildcard?

As to alt, I'd personally set the default to a 10k flat merge (read no 2k dive before merge) but it's tough to enforce. However
with guncam on it should be pretty easy to see in AH.

Last, in the event both planes take damage, first plane down always loses.

Private forum by all means!

Explore this site. I was active in this warbirds ladder until a few weeks ago, when I had to stop (mixing aces high and warbirds screwed both games). There was talk of starting an Aces High ladder there. I like the way this one is set up. If you are not active, your score suffers. There is also a cool little community there too. I would like to see an Aces High ladder modeled after it.

Hblair-

Now that is what I hope we find... someone that has an automated scoring system. The rules I'm sure we can find some agreement on, but the one nightmare hurdle I think we have to overcome is the "rearrange-100-players-on-the-board-twice-daily" routine. A Java program that would do this automatically would be much preferable.

Short of the applet, we may be forced to a much simpler form of ladder, such as leap-frogging. Personally, I like stats, so I hope something turns up...

http://www.fl-air.co.uk/warbirds/index.html-ssi  looks very nice and uses a rating system.
I dont think it is necessary to limit who you might challenge however since ratings determine position.

I do think the BBS thread and www pages should be open to the public to promote interest both in the AH Ladder and Aces High in general.

Oh, of course the forum should be open! I just thought perhaps it might be necessary to take the load off this thread and place it in a more focused forum. Hopefully then it will help the download time of those not interested in H2H threads.

I would hope we would have the discussions we are running now, where everyone is offering very viable and helpful opinions and URL's. This will help to pull it all together much quicker.

And yes indeed I hope to have the venue to introduce more and more new people to AH, and the H2H component will certainly be an easily accessible opportunity for anyone with hardware and a dial-up.

Count me in! Ghosth I owe you a few and Kieren too!  I had a blast with the wb H2H ladder a couple of years back.  I couldn't afford a per hour wb account and H2H was a great way for me to fly against real people. The only draw back I learned some bad habits.  1st merge no guns(try that in the MA   ), lack of SA.  I have broken most of these and hopefully with my practice in arenas since the H2H ladder days I will be more of a challange than 1 turn

Also anyone interested in a squad 4vs4 H2H ladder ?  I have several squaddies due to either age or RL limitations that can't fly MA but would love to mix it up in this manner till they can make it to the big show.

S!

Punting this back to the top, hoping we are making some progress... as we all know, H2H will soon be here.

I will put together a simple page for this. Sure could use some help on ironing it out. Still need some java help for a scoring applet, if anyone is interested.

Hmmm…H2H, is this the one circle fight where two contestants perform a no-shoot merge, Immelmann, than blow each other up in a head-on pass? Sounds interesting!

hehe, seems that way at times- then other times I have been in Lufberries that have gone 10K to the deck, the ultimate winner being determined after several anxious minutes. I remember many duels with Handy in particular that would always be a loooong fight.

Remember those, Handy? We would take 45 minutes to complete a best of 5 duel.

I can also tell you the wily fighters try a few surprises.
