Have only been shot at a half dozen times and lost the tail gun twice. That's hardly conclusive evidence of course, but it makes me wonder if anyone else has had similar experiences. Don't remember losing the tail gun in a B-17 or B-24 very often.
Never in a B-26 - even with the tail gunner's glass all shot up.
It's a given that 99% of the attacks come from dead six, especially considering the speed of the B-29. Still, both times that it got shot out was in the initial attack. The other attackers made slashing passes and bugged out after realizing they were being served up as a hot lunch. The two that persisted, flew up my low 6 and succeeded in killing the gunner. I shredded them both, but not fast enough apparently. Thank goodness for the bottom turret.
Could it be fragile, or just happenstance?
