Bad Luck...
« on: September 02, 2011, 04:18:34 PM »
Well our L-21B we just got back this spring from restoration after a ground looping 2 years ago was again involved in an accident on Wednesday. Our Chief pilot for our C-123K and who is also the president and is a CFI was at the controls. Upon the tailwheel coming down onto the runway, it veered off the runway to the left and into a ditch. Didnt flip like the last time, but we had a forced engine stop and the wing is said to be bent upwards.

This is what happened the last time as well as well

From early this spring just after it came back:

Its done for the year, but hopefully we can get it going again for next year.

Im thinking about flying to the airport tonight to take a look at it since its really close.

yup, i was hoping to get 100hrs in tailwheel between now and next july so i could be put on the insurance and fly it to oshkosh...

that was the scheme it was in when it flew for the Italian Army (esercito) from 54-86 as part of the lend lease program. It used to have fabric skin until the previous ground loop then it had this shrink wrap type put on and was painted in a high gloss paint but same scheme (even placement of camo stripes are the same).

Well i finally made it out to the airport to take pics...

We still havent decided if we will be doing the work ourselves or if the guy on field who has done cubs will be doing it. Damage to both wings, tear in the belly, cowling buckled, Top plexy glass cracked and bent along with top support beam and the second sudden stop on the engine.

and this was on the way there... Tress are looking BEAUTIFUL. This week will probably be the height of the season.
