Soar like a Eagle, or Auger like a drunken Crow?
« on: February 19, 2000, 04:17:00 PM »
So how is it for you in Aces High? Do you soar like a Eagle, or do you auger like a drunken Crow?

It continues to amaze me how a game like Aces High gives you so many ups and downs, no matter how good you are, or even how inept.

I think this is what brings me back night after night.

A couple of nights ago, I was so frustrated I want to scream. It was a good night for the Rooks. We had a good vulch locked down on f23, and pilots were racking up kill after kill. But it was a bad night for the Verminator. I was flying really well, and never got shot down. heheheh But every time I went in for the vulch it turned disasterous. Twice I augered on simple vulching runs, and a third time it was so close that my crew chief spent several hours scrubbing the grass stains off the bottom of my plane   The honest fights I did fine and got several kills, but if I got greedy, the ground would rise up and smack me from the sky

Then last night, we had the great mass raid on Bish City & HQ.  Easily the most fun I have had in Aces High, and I survived the fight without a ping.

So I am starting to learn, some nights I might auger like a drunken Crow, but too keep my chin up for the nights I soar like a Eagle.

Salute All!

I've augered more times than I care to admit.
I've written a note and pasted iT to the instrument panel.  It reads:  "No diving from 20k or greater!"  Below, I've affixed a smaller note: "Drop tank, winkie!"

I should change my name to "Heifer"

I suspect I've died in more muffed landings; boneheaded 'type while taking off' miscues, ripped wings while twitching the stick UP A HAIR on high speed passes and augers on field caps than I have 'in combat'.

My #1 non-combat death was with a comfortable d3 lead on a pack of very determined spits; niks and 109's. I was typing my 'nyaaaahhh nyah; can't catch me!' refrain. ==**THUD**== I clobbered the side of a hill. On the plus side; hairball completed her first three wall conversion a few seconds later. Like 'ol Verm sez.. highs, and lows.

*sigh* The cat and I both agree.. I'm the dumbest damn pilot in the sim; without doubt, my own (and the cat's) worst enemy.

I have one simple phrase that many of us need to remember.

"Eagles may soar, but weasles don't get sucked into jet engines" (props in this case)

Man, I had a terrible week-end in Main, great week-end training a couple in TA...In main, I'd go to my typical 20K, and behold, I'd always run into 3 or 4 cons at 25K!!  Died alot but had a blast with Roger Wilco when flying with AKWabbit, Doc, Heckle, Ram, Weaz, Niteflyr...many more than I didn't post, <S> to all you guys, hope to "talk" with ya soon online, and forgive my poor performances this week-end,for  I had seemed to have 'phased' with the moon!

Vermillion, your tale of woe about an off night for a gang-banging, vultching, ROOKie brings tears to my eyes. I'm thinking of putting a hankie dispenser in my cockpit.
