Pz Abt 505 Tiger I skin
« on: October 12, 2011, 11:21:52 AM »
This Tiger I skin is a tank of Pz Abt 505, based in Poland in Summer 1944. Pz Abt 505 painted their emblem, a knight in armour, on the turret sides moving the tactical number to the gun mantlet. The photos I have of this tank show that the gun barrel has been replaced and is still in its heat proof primer.

There are some photos of this tank in this Russian forum thread.

Nice.  The yellow bit of paint takes a bit of getting used to, but it surely is a different skin.  I just hope the yellow doesn't make the tank stand out like an erection in spandex.   :D

Job well done!   :aok

Now please get to work on some Panzer IV skins, you've already done a fine job on the default skins, but we all know there are tons more.   ;)

Thanks guys. This scheme is going to stick out more than the default scheme in the MA, more because of the lack of green in the scheme than the yellow band I think. In general eastern front German tanks used little or no green paint in their schemes, the exception being at the Kursk battle. This was because for most of the year the steppe terrain was more brown than green and German tanks often fought in towns and cities on that front.

The 505 King Tiger on my list of future projects. I've got plans to do a few Panzer IVs as well but I like to give other skinners a chance to look at the skin when the update comes out and declare an interest before starting any. In general though I may do some winter and desert german tank schemes, more for scenarios than the MA.

Note if anyone is thinking of doing a Panzer IV skin you can do any variant of it that saw action in WW2. Any Panzer IV up to the F can be skinned on the F variant and the J can be skinned on the H variant. The early Ausf G was essentially the same as the Ausf F2 but the later Gs looked much more like the H. So if you are doing a G with spaced armour it goes on the H skin, while one without spaced armour goes on the F.

Lumber?  That would be a tree trunk that would be more apt to be used to put under the tracks of the Tiger for traction in mud/sand rather than to be used to construct something.  Just a hunch.

Something else, it could be a type of improvised protection against magnetic explosives.

Only reason for the tree trunk is there is to help it get out of the mud if it got stuck. BTW great skin Greebo.
