Goodies...
« on: November 01, 2011, 04:00:32 PM »
So, birthday just passed.. likewise I have birthday money to spend, hopefully. if this is the case, I have a tentative wishlist for upgrades for my machine.here it is, let me know what you think:

http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/PublicWishDetail.aspx?WishListNumber=12677069

selling everything inside my chassis that is on that wishlist, PS, mobo, vid card, RAM. switching from AMD to Intel, getting an i7-970 for $225. gotta love Tech teachers that work at best buy and took a special course with intel chips  :rock. anyway, let me know your thoughts. I have a fan for the CPU Cooler so thats why that is missing. my biggest concern is video card. many different people telling me many different things. some people say Radeon 68** or 69** series but i as is this is stretching my budget. issue is, if I wind up doing SLI i may as well buy a 68** or 69**.... Going to get BC3 im hoping, so maybe I'll use that as a gauge for video card. anyone play it yet that can offer food for thought?

While the i7 970 is nice, I would hold off until the future fate of LGA1366 is decided. It may be skipped entirely in future chip releases, making what you see now what you get.

the chip is going to hold me for a while. I make a promise to that... not buying a brand new $550 chip to toss it out 6 months later. as for the board, I cant see them stopping production of the 1366 chipsets any time soon. they still pentium and Xeon boards. I wouldnt mind an LGA 2011 chip and board just becuase its new, but i dont have the money.

didn't you just build your system this year mason?  :headscratch: you could just save the money until the holiday sales really crank up and you find something you really want is on sale for once.

i know, money in the pocket is like fire...don't want it to burn a hole.

I enjoy money in my pocket and try to not spend it, but we all need to splurge  :devil

they 970's are a dead end right now.  you can get the 2500k for about the same amount of money.  and you can get a cheaper mobo that is just as good for about 100 bucks less, that mobo is way too much unless you are planing to triple sli.  get the ti card like everybody else says.  and get 2 fans for that cpu cooler.  the cpu cooler is tricky to install, make sure you look at youtube video before you start, specially when hooking up the fans.  when I got mine i checked out the thermal compound and it was highly rated.

and if you insist on getting that mobo, get an adaptor for the 4x4 power.  unless your ps is mounted on top, it's gonna be a tight reach from the bottom of the case.  did you notice that mobo only has 1 pci and 1 pcix1.  meaning 1 sound card and that's about it.  make sure you dont think that later you can get another pci crap to hoot up to it :).

semp
you dont want me to ho, dont point your plane at me.

Check out the Intel "ark" site:  http://ark.intel.com/

All of the "2nd Generation" i7 chips are built for the 1155 socket.  Get yourself one of the unlocked chips, either a 2700K or a 2600K.   :aok

I looked at passmark, just as a general idea. The 2600k is cheaper then the I7 and a bit faster.(Ithink it was the 2600k, the 2700k was much better and still less money.)

If I was building a new system going up to 200.00 on a CPU the Sandy Bridge is what I would buy. My personal opinion.

After poking around a bit more and knowing what I have to spend on my stuff I have decided to go with an i5-2500k 1155 socket.
updated wishlist:

https://secure.newegg.com/WishList/MySavedWishDetail.aspx?ID=13909934

dont plan on OCing, so that wont be an issue. many people said the chip runs warm, so I have the cooler in there for the sake of knowing it wont warm up too much. had to cut some things out that I would have liked, such as the PSU and power strip, but  couldnt make them fit into the budget. power strip will be next to be bought though.
