NOE flying and the 65' dar showing
« on: December 02, 2011, 11:37:41 AM »
This is all good and dandy when ur above water but!! What if your flying in rolling hills. Would like to know if somebody knows they exact height of those trees we see in game. This way you could gauge how much above the trees you can fly and be under the 65'. So for example if the trees are suppose to be 30' high, well you know that by flying just above them you are sure that you are way under the min/max 65' aloud to give a radar signature.   :aok    Or maybe I just misunderstand and it's still 500 feet above ground level??

I don't know the height of the trees but it wouldn't surprise me if they were 65 feet high so that you could use them as a gauge for the 65 foot height limit.

Shouldn't that 65 feet really start from the top of the trees?
Far too many, if not most, people on this Board post just to say something opposed to posting when they have something to say.

You could argue it either way I think but the issue is how the game is coded. I think it's from ground level not treetop level. Tree tops aren't generally as lethal as they are in Aces High. The trees are different heights and after a quick check around A1 in the TA it appears that the taller trees are around 40 ft high.

I'm guessing that the radar sees the height of the aircraft CG.

So, it's pretty simple. It's almost impossible to fly at or below 65ft following rolling hills. All good. :aok

It's a challenge, simple doesn't mean easy.  :aok

It's not all bad though, the 65 foot barrier is for dot dar, not bar dar.  As I understand it, here's how the levels work these days:

Anywhere inside the radar circle distance, base or town flashes, so if the town is far from the base and something is that far from the town but not actually in the dar ring, only the town will flash.  Once the plane is within the radar range, the base flashes.

Above 65 feet within the dar ring, you show up on dot dar.

Above 500 feet anywhere, you show on bar dar.

So, to get to a base NOE, it would appear to me the easiest way to do it would be to pork the dar and then fly in under 500 feet.

Wiley.
If you think you are having a 1v1 in the Main Arena, your SA has failed you.

No

That's why piletz sez the wordz 5000' AGL

Not 5000' ATL...

Above 65 feet within the dar ring, you show up on dot dar.

Above 500 feet anywhere, you show on bar dar.

I haven't checked the LW arena settings lately, but you can check the alts yourself. Just go to an arena (any arena) and pull up the arena settings on your clipboard. Look for RadarAlt to check when a dot will show up inside the radar ring, and look for SectorCounterAlt to check when you'll throw a dar bar.
