Frame 2 Scoring Question - Task Group
« on: November 12, 2011, 09:41:13 AM »
C39 was hit really hard and was quite an impressive attack.  We lost the CV and all but 4 planes between 2 squads.  We hit the strike group at the only place we thought we had a chance.  Of the 39 total Ju88s that attacked C39, we managed to drop 18 of them.  They got the Carrier but nothing else.

We thought they would come back to get the rest of the boats but we never saw a second attack.

Here is my question, did the CV have a point value?  According to the objectives, the CV is not a target.  The cruiser and DDs did have point value therefore should have been the targets.  But not the CV.

Am I missing something?  How will this be tallied for Allied / Axis score in Frame 2?

Below is what the Objectives say for scoring:

Scoring:

Aircraft Pts
------------
Bomber = 10 pts
Fighter = 5 pts
Landing Bonus = 5 pts
IN FLIGHT AT FRAME END KIA = 25 pts

Ground Target Pts
-----------------
Gun = 1 pt
Ammo Bunker = 3 pts
Barracks = 3 pts
Radar = 3 pts
Vehicle Hangar = 25 pts
Fighter Hangar = 25pts
Bomber Hangar = 25 pts
Town Building = 3 pts
Factory at strategic target = 3 pts
Truck in convoy = 1 pt
Train = 2 pts
Cruiser = 100 pts
Destroyer = 50 pts

The CV that was originally placed there was removed, due to an error. The Substitute was a full CV group. The Admin. is aware of that issue and plans on a adjustment to allow the discrepancy. My only question would concern, If the CV had no point value, why would one waste ords on it? Thanks for the post!

The Task Group that was there then removed actually took one of my scout's cannons out from the flak burst before it was removed.  It was actually quite funny on VOX.  We heard about that the rest of the night...  When he was finally in a position to attack the Ju88s, his BBs had no effect on them.

Thanks for the response.

Aware of the glitch with the CV. I will make an allowance for the fact it wasn't supposed to be with the Task Group (was supposed to just be a Cruiser and the DDs). The fault of it being there was ours not the players.

    As a member of the JU-88's attacking the task group, and actually the person who dropped the CV. <Yay me! ... Ooops :(> Here was our perspective.

    We only expected to see the Destroyers. We noticed that the CV group we were supposed to destroy, the one in the containment sector, was actually ours, until T+5 when it "mysteriously vanished" (LOL  :rofl ). When we got over target and saw a carrier, our MA reflexes took over and the call was made to drop the CV. We had split our bomber force into two groups - single JU-88's as Dive bombers, and Box-JU-88's as level bombers. We re-tasked our Dive bombers for the Carrier, and Box-Bombers to take out the cans. Tickle69 dropped on the CV first, softening it up, then I followed and got the kill. 420's "Bb's" were quite effective on me down there on the deck  :bolt:
    From the tower, I followed the progress of our remaining force - which was methodically, and ruthlessly, being cut to pieces. They made their drop, but manual calibration over water, while being viciously harassed by damdable P40's and LA's <Salute guys :salute>, made a good drop nigh but impossible. After clearing the target area, our bombers vectored to 62, as 60 - our home base - was under attack at that very moment. (Who ever attacked 60 in those B26's at low altatude, a Mighty <<S>> to you! That was one wicked raid, and watching it from the tower was terrifying!)
    We never made a second attack because, though we could rearm at 62, we had to tower out at 60 (This was confirmed multiple times by our CIC). The math indicated, and yes I was forced to do math in public despite all the training and advice that Rodent had given to the contrary   :headscratch:, it indicated that we didn't have the time to get to target, then back to 60 before the end-of-frame. As the point penalty was too high to be caught in flight at EOF, the call was made to scrub the second strike (Much to Tickle69's consternation, as he was already en-route back to target. But even he agreed - after also being caught doing math in public  :eek: - that he didn't have the time.)

    G3-MF,  You guys did a awesome job defending. If the CV was not a target, and CIC makes the ruling that it was out of bounds, then we shouldn't get the points (Our bad for not sticking to the letter of the orders even in the fog of war!) And I'm ok with that - as long as my name gets to stay in lights! LOL

Hope this after-action report helps CIC make the call on the scoring question.
Hope I gave enough Salutes to all those in this action who deserve it!

Time for zee CiC to chime in und take zee blame for this one. While I vas only the frame CiC und can not make judgement on scoring, I can place zee blame where it rests.  In zee orders I sent out, I did not spell out how to prioritize zee targets. The frame CiC did not specify what zee main target was. My overconfidence in an overwhelming bombing attack to destroy every last boat put afloat by zee wee tiny Russian Cossack dogs vas wrong.  Not that zee Soviet Navy did not put up a great defense or that our Kampfflieger where not compentant, but rather, it seems, fate has dealt a cruel hand :cry

~S~ to those that gave their all to attempt zee Angriff Vertretungen(attack missions), und ~S~ to those that defended against zee angriffen on zee Fatherland  :salute

Any way you look at it, it was a fun frame regardless of the score.

We knew our only chance at protecting the TG was to catch the bombers as far away as possible.  We actually were not preparred for what we encountered.  We never thought Ju88s were coming.  We expected 110s or 190s at about 8 to 12K to dive in as they would have had an easy time dropping a CA and DDs.  We NEVER expected to see Ju88s.  That was surprise number 1.  Then the swarm of fighters we were trying to bypass just to get as many rounds into bombers was an impressive dance.

The strike group was impressive.  As I flew through the bomber formations and rounds coming at me from a spherical 360 degrees, I got oiled then as I passed the lead flights of Ju88s, a PW.

Somehow made it home before bleeding out.

 :salute to you all for an impressive attack regardless of the outcome of the score.  It was quite a sight to see.

 :cheers:
