so how did you fix it?
First I deleted the AV. Then I turned off auto updates. That didn't do the trick. In fact it seemed a bit worse. Then I opened MSconfig and took all the junk out of startup like iTunes, AMD Control Center, etc. That lowered everything. After that I delted every tool bar on my system except the Google Tool bar. Be wary of anything you down load wether you say download it or not it may down load the tool bar. Those tool bars like Ask.com, support.com, and Google. Everything seemed fine until I went back on the internet. Then the system slowed to a crawl. Not just AH but the entire system. So I went back and deleted the google tool bar. After that everything is fine. CPU usage dropped to 0-1% at desktop. Before it was spiking to 80%. Further CPU usage at desk top dropped to around 20% from around 34%.
My theory on the google tool bar is that I took it out of startup using msconfig. However once I opened IE it became active and started using resources trying to catch up on what it missed. Someone with more computer savvy than me can verify this or not.
Lesson learned, watch those tool bars. Seems everyone on the internet wants on your computer. I'll have to load another AV and I'm thinking of AGV or whatever it is.
Addendum: What amazes me is as fast as these computers are these days a few unwarranted programs can bring them to their knees.
