I have it, never really coddled up to it.. I use multiple hats and it works just fine for me.

I've used it for many, many years and love it.  I don't think it confers any advantage but it's more immersive.  As Widewing mentions, some never get hooked on it either because they just can't get the hang of it, it's too much work, or it causes nausea.  This is the same as can happen in real flying, some people just can't adapt to it.

It is possible to build your own with free software off the web and about $10-$15 worth of gear from radioshack.

Then you can see if you like it before forking out any dough(it takes about an hour) on either TrackIR or better parts for your homebuild.

I've only had mine a few months and I'm still working on getting it set like I like it. For all view except the 6 view it is far superior. I still have trouble getting to my 6 view quick, but other than that it's great.

I have the "yaw" set pretty aggressive towards the extremes so that It snaps to the '6' view pretty easy with minimal head movement and without sacrificing control.

If mine were to break, I would bother flying till I replaced it.

For all you guys who don't like the F4U's six views, turn off TIR with F9, move your head as far up in the canopy as you can (can't go to the limit in the -1 as you lose your gunsight), save the position with F10, turn TIR back on.  It gets much much better six view.  The F6F and F4F are just a wall though, nothing to be done there.

Have it, love it, will not (and cannot) fly without it.

I tried the hat switch views, would rather ditch flight sims altogether if I couldn't keep my track-ir.

For those guys having problems with the F4U and F6F, try this trick.  Lean forward and hit the center button then go ahead and sit back in your normal position. You'll see that your in-game head is towards the back of the cockpit.  Basically, what you've done is set a center position ahead of where you actually sit therefore your ingame head is behind the centered position.  Turn your head to check six and what you'll see is that your ingame head will be toward the front of the cockpit and farther away from the headrest so you can see better.  I do admit though, that there's not much you can do with that large metal shield over the top of the pilot's head in the later F4U models, it's just obnoxious.  You can, of course, fly the birdcage F4U-1 where there is no overhead shield.

Leaning to the left or right gets me by the top shield fine.
