My idea's on implementing Artillery.
« on: November 11, 2011, 07:27:01 PM »
Ive been brainstorming a bit on the Idea of Artillary. Ive thought up a few Ideas which i thought i'd share to the community. praise, or criticizem both, are welcomed on each and every idea stated. :salute

First idea:
GUNCAM
This idea is a way to aim using Artillery. Its works along the lines of:
-When an Artillery round is shot off, the player Who shot the round, Immediately jumps from the artillery gun, to the round that was fired, Riding its view to target, or in other words, a "gun cam". They follow the round from launch, all the way to touch-down. This would allow the player to see the projectery of their round, along with where it hit, to allow them to make a proper angle adjustment to hit their target.
-When in the Guncam, the player would have the ability to leave guncam, by simply hitting the ESC button, in which the camera will jump from the round, back to the gun position of the artillery piece.
-this system favors a 2-man team. One to be the gunner/guncam observer, and the other to be the driver, who watches out for the artillery piece while the gunner is in guncam.

Second Idea:
Air To Ground View
This idea implements the most out of the idea's ive thought of. It involves adding recon and artillery-spotter airplanes. To assist the gunner.
-When an recon plane is within 10k of an artillary piece, The artillary gunner has the option to "latch on" to the recon plane.
What this means is, the gunner can jump into the Recon plane at any time, but cannot control the recon plane. Simier to how people join planes currently, only the artillery gunners can join any recon plane at any time.
-while in the recon plane, the gunner still has control of firing his artillery gun. From the recon plane, he can fire a salvo, and watch his round, from launch, to landing, from the air.
-To make aim adjustments, the gunner would have to jump back into his artillary gun.
-This idea implements teamwork among air&ground. a recon plane is required for this system to work.

Third Idea.
Side Guncam
This idea is similer to my first, just a bit different, instead of the player following the round directly, once fired a small  screen will open on the players corner, letting them watch the guncam, while still remaining in the gunners position.
-This idea would allow the player to manage their piece, while still watching the guncam, at the same time.

Fourth idea.
Artillary smoke.
This is another idea which impliments recon planes.
-Recon planes would have the ability to equip artillary spotter smoke, Once droped over a city, it will release colored smoke, showing the gunners where town as, as well as telling them the distance from them, to the smoke.
-The smoke canisters would be destructable. Meaning if an enemy strafed one, the smoke would stop, and gunners would no longer have their distance locked in.

Just some ideas i thought i'd share. Hope something sounds good.  :salute

How about having "land mode" enabled on the LVT-A4 instead, then adding some more artillery later on and keeping land mode enabled for the artillery?

Also 10k away for an artillery piece to "latch" onto a plane? How horribly unrealalistic that is, is hard to say. since when can we see past 30,000 feet on the ground in game?

unless your sitting on top of a mountain looking down, your not seeing much father than 5k.

Whilst in a 17-pounder, I use the F3,F5 & F8 keys to see wher my rounds are going.  Have you tried that?  It's the "God-View" thing.

I don't think hes talking about ways to make it easier to use 17lbers and LVTA4.

Skorpion, +1 to the land gunner mode, but you really need to get over the LVT(A)4. Besides, not sure but I think the LVTA4 was used in more of a direct fire manner, and so wouldn't get land gunner.
You started this thread and it was obviously about your want and desire in spite of your use of 'we' and Google.

The LVT-(A)4 was used both in the direct and indirect fire support role.

the LVT-A4 is the only artillery we have in game. Also, it was used as indirect fire more than direct, because the howitzer excelled at that type of shooting.

working the Land-Mode system similar to taskgroup guns would be the most Ideal... That way it's get isolated to just the pilot...

Dropping smoke from planes is touchy... it would leave the question of WHAT planes would receive it...

Either way +1 - its time for artillary
