BF3 for console or PC
« on: November 29, 2011, 09:24:05 PM »
I don't want to cover old ground, but I'm wanting to know which OS is better for running BF3. I don't want this to be a PC/Console battle, so please keep your opinions constructive. If you've had experience with both operating systems that would be outstanding.

So, out of XBox 360 pro or Windows 7...

1) which could run BF3 more smoothly?
2) which displays graphics the best?
3) which version has the least amount of bugs and anomalies?
4) which style of play is the most convenient for operating and control? (vehicles, weapons, movement...)
5) Which gives the best overall multiplayer experience?

I have a windows 7 that I believe can handle the graphics load; plus I've been a PC gamer at heart since, eh, 1942. However, being able to play offline multiplayer with my buds would be something big that I know a PC cannot do. So that's my dilemma: I've been waiting for EA to get some of the kinks worked out and now I want to know if I should get it for PC or console.

Thanks alot, <S> ShtGn

Get for the PC. It looks far better on a PC than it does on any of the consoles and, unlike a game pad, the controls for the PC (keyboard + mouse) is far more accurate.  Sadly, though you'll have to pay console game prices for it, EA is greedy that way.

1942, one of my favorite ever games. I have heard that consoles seem to be really buggy but I haven't tried it out for myself.
I like it on pc, get on TS with a few guys and you have a great map rolling team(rush, conquest). I never have been able to like
fps games on console because I can't get used to the controls, but pc just feels more natural(maybe its the fact that my 1st
pc game was Bf1942 and I was 10 :lol). I guess it really just depends on what system your friends have Bf3 on.

Even if your PC can only run the game on medium or even low, it still looks better than either console versions. PC version also gets 64 players on a map (although it can get *too* hectic at times on the smaller maps), compared to only 32 on consoles.

Now to the cons of PC.

You have to start the game through your web browser, so if you have no Internet, you can't play campaign either. The support team is iffy (EA), so if you have problems, you're better off reading a forum or a blog. I called in 3x for EA, two times, I met some Indian guy (no racism intended), who had no idea what I was saying. The third time I met a really cool American guy, who helped me and answered all my questions and even gave me a 15% off code for their games, which was awfully nice.

You said you wanted to play with your buddies, so obviously, you won't be if you get the PC version.

IMO, I'd get the PC. Better graphics, and generally a lot smoother game play than consoles. Maybe you can even convince your buddies to get a PC after showing them the game on ultra. :aok

the game is concentrated on combat, not on shaking the screen.

Argh, I can't stand TDM in BF3. The whole point of BF3, to me, is Rush and Conquest. If I want mindless killing, I'd play other generic FPSs.

64 players map gets too crazy for me, I prefer having room to move or flank. But some people like the quick action that 64 players bring, and I can understand that. Only exception would be Kharg Island and Caspian Border, those two maps are perfect for 64 players.

Bazaar and Metro on the other hand is a spawn and insta death nightmare, I don't understand how people like those maps (on 64 players that is).

the game is concentrated on combat, not on shaking the screen.

Ever?

Considering he said there IS and not will be, all current consoles are based on 5-6 years old mainstream hardware. So no, they can't compete.

I remember when I first started playing games on PC.  I had a 50MHZ 486DX with 4mb of ram while the cutting edge consoles processors ran at just over 7mhz.
If I had a gun with 3 bullets and I was locked in a room with Bin Laden, Hitler, Saddam and Zipp...  I would shoot Zipp 3 times.

Ever?

yes ever.... they will never mass produce any game console for the general public that will out perfom a gaming PC period, it wouldnt be cost effective for them no matter how cheap they get the parts for. i can upgrade my PC anytime can you upgrade a console to perform faster?  only thing you can upgrade is the HD on consoles, ive played console games on my PC using an emulator, even using that the games were less than fun to play.
