US Mosquito Book - Santa Wants You To Have It
« on: December 12, 2011, 02:59:56 AM »
Been waiting for this one for some time.

Ignore all the kay-rap you've heard about this unit over the years, this book is the real deal.

For what it's worth, I don't have any commercial links to the book, but I do correspond with the author.

Santa still wants you to have it though.

... missions were to be met by the commitment of alerted swarms of fighters, composed of Me 109's and Fw 190's, that were strategically based to protect industrial installations. The inferior capabilities of these fighters against the Mosquitoes made this a hopeless and uneconomical effort. 1.JD KTB

Looks like a good read. The crucial role that recon groups did during the war can sometimes be overlooked with all the focus on aces and bombers. There were no satellites to take photos in 1944. Those guys flew some very hazardous missions.

Tempting, but I am not sure I can afford that price right now.

Also a lot of recon was low and fast, not too many 5000mm f1.2 lenses around back then... screaming along at tree level in a wooden plane was plenty scary I'm sure.   :salute
