Help with a computer problem
« on: December 13, 2011, 01:50:01 PM »
I play AH with a Dell 17 inch laptop.  It's got great performance with FR at 60.  Great performance for 2 years now.

In the last month something has got me.  It's a stutter coming at 30 sec intervals.  it stops Audio and Video for 1 sec. I have a feeling something more is going on in AH because I'm getting pilot wounds at 800 yds from directly behind me.  It's like what I'm seeing is not what others see.

I've uninstalled all the last updates.
I've done a virus scan.
I've disabled as many notify programs as I can find.

This is killing me.  Any ideas?

Did a system check for registry errors, hard disk problems, iolo mechanic stuff.  Lots of things to fix, but it didn't fix this.

It's giving me the stutter ever 30 seconds.

Back up anything you want to keep and do a full wipe/restore.
Then go in and uninstall all of the junk they force on you (including Anti-whatever software and the office trial suite).
Now put back on whatever you want and make sure each software has auto updating turned off.
Now pray and hope for the best.
This should take care of any software gremlins.

It's also possible you have a fan that is bad and it is overheating.. that's pretty common for even a 2 year old laptop.

Those types of gremlins can be very difficult to find.  I once had a problem where whenever I bombed a target in an AR234 I'd disco.  I lost dozens of AR234's over a weeks time tracking down the problem.  It was because I had both my NIC ports enabled and bound together.  Once I unbound them and disabled one the problem went away.

Good luck.
I edit a lot of my posts.  Get used to it.

Check if your harddrive light flashes during the stutter. This will be an indication that some other process is dumping stuff to disk and temporarily freezing your laptop. If no disk activity is present then the problem may be worse, you may face OS reinstall to solve it.
