In honor of my hero, and on a random day that sees me getting the first real time off from work in three years I want to do a simple Navy raid. I fly Rook so all are welcome in the MA though it will launched via Rook.
This is a McCampbell raid after Cpt David McCampbell, USN. He was CAG Commander of CAG-15 flying off the USS Essex where he managed to kill 35+ Japanese birds flying the F6F-5 Hellcat.
At [6 PM Central - note time change from 5 PM Central] time today we are going to launch a McCampbell raid/fighter sweep. Only F6Fs allowed, bombs and/or rockets optional. We will have a CV within strike range of an enemy field and go kick the crap out of it. The goal is to stir up a hornets nest and kill some bad guys. For those about to die we strongly encourage you to up in any Japanese crate you can find.
As for leadership of this mission. I am logistics officer. Front row goes to anyone from VF-15, which flies in his honor. If they are not able to take lead I would prefer those from Navy squads like VF-17 to grab the reins. Other than this, its old fashion Navy Division tactics, mass and destroy. I would prefer everyone launch with rockets so we can deack the town and base. If you Nancies on the other side get worried and need to up in ubber planes like Tempests, 262s or whatevery, fine. You'll die anyway...Nancy-girls.
Let's do it!
Boo
PS If you are able or want to participate please respond to this post. If no one does, I'm flying solo. If anyone from VF-15 wants to help organize, again respond to this. Or any other Navy squad. I want to get a sense for what I should expect...30 minutes tops.
PPS In the spirit of Cpt David McCampbell I'd rather go with 4 motivated Hellcats then 40 noobs and Nancies. New pilots, great chance to get to know people and fly in a well organized mob.
