Help build a P-51 in honor of a MIA Tuskegee airman.
« on: December 23, 2011, 03:54:59 PM »
Hello fellow Aces Highers,
A local group that hosts and runs a airshow in western New York, the 1941 Historical Aircraft Group  http://1941hag.org/ , is trying to acquire funds to help build a P-51 from scratch to honor a local Tuskegee airman, Leland Pennington, that went MIA in WWII. The Pepsi refresh project is making some money available to such projects. The thing is its up for a vote and of course only the most popular and highest vote getting projects will receive some.
A little background from the HAG website: On April 21st, 1945, the city of Rochester, NY lost a war hero. Flight Officer Leland H. Pennington, a member of the Tuskegee Airmen's 301st Fighter Squadron, was lost while returning to base from combat. A successful bomber escort mission over the Attnang-Puchheim Marshaling Yard in Austria was Leland's last action for the war effort. During this mission, Pennington was flying a P-51B-10 "Mustang" named "Lucy Gal," after his wife. From the ground up, Austin is going to build an exact-spec P-51B "Mustang" to honor our local Tuskegee hero""
If you feel that such a thing is worth wile of your time and effort and the funds, please vote. You can vote for up to 5 projects each day. I haven't looked at any other projects as this is the only one I'm interested in and thought some of you WWII enthusiasts might be also.
