you thinking of aw missions.  but this wish if granted will go the way of ww1 arena and the other arenas.  people just want to play in the ma for some reason.

I am sorry that I never knew about Air Warriors, although I heard that it was pricey compared to what we have today in AH2.  I guess I was bitten by the air combat bug, long ago with the Top Gun arcade game.  Then I picked up the Red Baron on 5 inch Floppy disk for my computer and finally found AH right around 2000.

Having been around the current game for such a stretch, I can say that we can only ponder what the future of Aces High will be, especially considering the advances made in technology and gaming culture in that legnth of time.

Whoever creates the mission would be the commander, or the rank system could be used in the way that fleet commanders are decided today.  And a really good question Jimson, I hadn't thought about it being mission with more than one non AI player so much.  I guess that I have been playing the offline practice missions too much  :uhoh

I was thinking a series of missions would be pre loaded in a CM or HTC run arena and would automatically launch at intervals throughout the day.

There would be an attack mission for one side and a countering defend mission for the other.

Maybe system prompts would give general instructions to the players, but the AI would not be controllable.

After the mission time runs out perhaps airwarps put the surviving players and surviving AI back on a heading home.

Again, it would be cool if a player had a choice to either wait for the beginning of the next mission or join a mission in progress, spawn in and replace an AI that was in flight within the first 1/2 of the mission or so. That way no one would have to wait long to play and it would maximize the opportunity for real players to replace AI.

Apparently an AI mission feature is still being planned for the custom arenas.

Eventually this might make it into the CM run arenas.

I hope it's such that you can load up a bunch of em on a timer.

Wow!  Thanks Jimson!  Hearing that it is in the plans, sure means a lot to  me (and no  :uhoh that wasn't me doing back flips in the dining room  ).

I think that my ideas are very much the same as your ideas Jimson.  Like we have now you can set the missions up for a decent time in the future and may set up multiple missions.

Where I think we diverge in thought:

  • My wish AI fill the roster so it may launch with the planner regardless of players joining
  • Your wish allows players to join missions in progress, replacing AIs
  • My wish Missions are limited in size, resembling a small group force that may cooperate with other small group forces
  • Your wish allows players to fly in large missions

The biggest fault that I have encountered with the AI, is that they tend to lose altitude during fights and usually end up on the deck with no way of getting them to stay on course or evading would be furballers.  In the offline mission planner there are commands that somewhat do what I wish for.  I would just hope that when they released them into action for the Custom Arenas, they would give players minimal control, otherwise the AI peel away from the task and end up drilling tunnels through the hillsides, instead of attacking and re grouping for better advantage point or to stay on course to a target.

I think we are on the same page on this part. Maybe trying to accomplish the same thing in different ways.

I'm thinking that that the slots are first set with AI place holders but when players join either for the next mission or one in progress those AI are one by one eliminated leaving only the unclaimed by player slots filled with AI so that the mission can launch regardless.

Since players might not want to wait for the next mission, if there are still slots being flown by AI it would be cool if players could spawn in and replace those in flight.

Of course I have no idea if that is even feasable programming wise.
