If you're looking for wartime pictures take a look at

http://www.fold3.com/browse.php#1|hbSH1CZcR

You may have to register to download them, but the USAF gallery is free and there's enough there to keep you busy for awhile. :)

airliners.net has plenty. Also in google images you can select a high resolution that for your picture and it would give you only the big ones.

I think there used to be something like Jane's WWII WarBird or something like that.  You could take your child to a public Library and introduce them to the Dewey Decimal System.  Or a local Barns & Nobel Book Store, just about the same thing.

Let us know what kind of a grade you get, I mean, your child gets.

For a kid's report, I would go with the most recognized types and try and give their opponents.  For example, P51D Mustang along with the Bf109.  P40 along with A6m Zeke.  B17 fortress along with FW190.  Corsair along with ???  << proper history fails me here as well as check me on the above examples.  But you get where I am going.  There are many myths that have been perputrated by the movies and popular TV shows that could be brought out in the report to earn that extra credit.  Stir the kid in that direction, with all of the movie ads for "Redtails" there should be some elevated interest in his report.

Have fun.
