I have been reading that this can affect performance anyone has any experience with this option?

It drops CPU performance when it's not needed. With AH running one or two of your cores will run to maximum and C&Q will throttle the rest of the cores to keep the cpu cooler.

It's not supposed to at least. I haven't had any visible effect on my AMD systems using it (well, except having the system run much quieter).
