Lovely Leta was a B-29 of the 502nd BG, 411th BS based on Guam from late 1944. The 502nd BG were often tasked with destroying Japan's petroleum industry. Their aircraft were stripped of most of their defensive armament to save weight and this allowed them to carry a much heavier load of bombs. As they were operating mainly at night the undersides of their aircraft were painted black.
