ALL controller settings lost...how to recover them?
« on: January 22, 2012, 02:24:59 PM »
Hi Gents,

Woke up this morning and my CH Fighterstick had lost all its mapping.

In the course of fiddling w things, I removed the USB plugs (powered hub), reinserted. Now I've lost ALL the mappings for my X45 throttle and CH pro peds.

Hopefully there's some simple fix to this waaaaaay short of re-mapping everything?

And, I'm still confused as to why the Fighterstick lost its mappings to begin with.

Thanks in advance for any help guys..?

Do you use the CH Manager program?  If so, mappings might have been saved to a *.cms file...?

i have found out this is a problem with ch sticks sometimes.  mapping disappears.  only way is to save a copy of your settings folder then just replace it whenever this happens.

..Thanks for responses gents:

1) I have CH Manager installed, but never used it. I found I could program all I needed via the AH software.

2) Semp, so I have to re-map everything (and save the settings...what are the file names, please?)

3) What would be the explanation for the subsequent loss of all my info from the X45 throttle and CH Pro peds? All I recall doing before those events happened was removing / replugging the USBs.

I was hoping somebody would hop on here and say something simple / obvious like "Look on the back of your stick. You'll see a small squid there. Remove it" :)

Sigh, it seems when I have probs there is no easy explanation.....

in your aces high directory there's a folder called settings.  right were the sounds/skins/sights folder should be.  just copy the full directory to your desktop  every couple of months delete the old one and make a new copy.

i believe the reason you lose your settings is when the system thinks it's a new device so it will delete the old settings.  also happens when you move usb connection to a different one.  it shouldnt happen anymore if you have win7 with all the latest updates.  but I remember how anoying it was to lose my settings everytime I would change things around in my puter.  it only happens with ch hardware, with saitek i would remove it and hook it up months later and the settings would still be there.

Thank you Semp.

I guess I need to:

1) Keep everything plugged in (including the Saitek x45)

2) Keep a backup file

I have W7 w all upgrades.

Major PIA for this to be happening, and only thing to do is remap alllll the settings, especially the scalings:
it took me a couple months to get the settings to where I can survive 7-8 minutes instead of 3-4 mins :)

Yup, same thing happened to me when I changed USB hubs, or had to exit with ALT F4, only mine is a TM Cougar.  Make a copy of your particular .jsm file when you setup your controller the way you want it, and then if you lose the settings, just re-copy the backup to the original.  The .jsm file is in your /settings folder, with the original (NOT setup) file in the stickdef folder.  I copied all of my jsm files (I have CH Pro pedals) into backups, so if I lose them, it is relatively easy to recover them.

Thanks Dark.

All that I read about the CH gear..... never saw this mentioned until now. Must have glazed over this problem or else would have had it all backed up.

Any ideas why the Saitek went out to lunch also? It's patched thru the CH stick so I guess thats the relationship....?

Ouch,

Probable (good guess).  I lost all of my Saitek stuff as well, but I wasn't fussed, it was pretty easy to set back up except for the scaling.  I usually edit the .jsm file for that anyway.

Moving to the USB gear ATM, trying map everything, should I even bother with the CH software of just do it through AH?

I mapped everything thru AH, didn't use the CH software at all.

I need to study the CH proggy a bit; there's probably some useful chords that can be used but I've found all the functions I need are available just thru the AH interface.

Just remember to back it all up.... my setup still doesn't feel like it was before I lost everything.
