EDIT: Do we need the beta to preview this? Can we do this for skins that aren't updated in the game yet, or do we have to wait until we get HTC approval to do certain skins this way?

You can view all the skins, like in AH2
only beta  supports bump mapping

You can create bump and spec maps for any ride in the game, even if the default does not have them yet. The beta or the beta skin viewer are needed to see these effects at the moment.

Most rides should have the new effects by the time the next version of AH goes live. I reckon HTC won't probably bother with the old AH1 shapes, but the rest should be done.

I downloaded what I thought was the latest Skin Viewer (7/30/2010) but could not see the effects of the bump and spec maps.

Are we going to get a new Skin Viewer or is there a place we can still get the beta Skin Viewer?

Thanks.

I don't have the beta... I went straight to the full version. I hope it works for me! Are you sure it's not working at all? I've been too preoccupied with the catalog to delve into it yet, but that is next on my list.

I have not made an exhausted test but looked at the P-51D and P-47D-25 and could not see the effects.  Went into the game and turned on the bump and spec effects and they were visible there.  Went back into the Skin Viewer incase it shared the game settings but no.  Got back on the download website and noticed the date for the viewer was 7/30/2010.  The link is indeed pointing to AHSKVIEW2210.EXE which is not the latest and the greatest.

While experimenting with this bump mapping, I just tried to save default skins of both the 51b, and the spit8 (using the Beta), and even though I have the video at 1024, and hi res, my bmps are coming down at 512? Any suggestions?
