I had a book collection of Mauldin's comics when I was growing up.  It was loosely organized by date and theater, with some historical background blurbs accompanying some of the comics.  Great stuff, funny as hell even to civilians but even better to anyone who's been there done that, shot the rat between the eyes with a .45 (still one of my favorites but now I imagine the rat is a huge camel spider and the .45 is a 9mm beretta).
Everyone I know, goes away, in the end.

My favorite Mauldin cartoon is one of an old cavalry Sgt with a jeep with a broken axle holding a .45 to the hood
getting ready to put it out of it's misery  :D

Mauldins work and the Sad Sack 'toons were some of the things I grew up reading. One of the bennies of growing up in a just post WW2 time.

DEFINITION OF A VETERAN
A Veteran - whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve - is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life."
