noob pc question

I installed windows 7 on to pc, onto drive D.

drive C is still there but i dont boot from it etc,it has windows files on it etc.

should i delete everything on  C as i dont use it, there are windows files which are the same on C and D

So you had Windows already installed on C and attempted to do a 'reinstall' which saw you already had Windows in C and to prevent problems with two OS installations in the same partition it suggested to install on D?

I've seen that happen before, and although theoretically they should be independent, deleting the unnecessary one comes out to be impossible due to some files being in use.

The best solution would be to do a fresh install, formatting both disks.

Highly probably they're interfering each other, unless you've made a double booting system on purpose, which you apparently didn't. AFAIK a double boot with Vista and Win7 is possible to make, but there's a bunch of gotchas to take into consideration.

So I repeat: The best solution is to format both disks and do a clean fresh install.
