Any sled dog fans or mushers?
« on: February 11, 2012, 02:32:32 AM »
Had the live tracking of the Yukon Quest up on my screen while I study for the past several hours.

Looks like Mackey and Moore decided to camp/rest together, their icons have been parked on top of each other there for the past hour or so while Neff has past them for the lead.

Just curious if there are any other sled dog fans out there?

I'm the only person I know who even casually follows the sport, of course I'm the only curling fan I know either, and I don't like NFL or NASCAR.... ....  it's a lonely world I live in.  :(

You are not alone at curling either. I play 2 nights a week.

Our provicial playdowns are on right now. Go Stoughton !
I read it on the internet, so it must be true !

I ran a distance team from 87-91.  Have a lot of miles staring at dog butts.

I've been passed by Susan Butcher and Dee Dee Jonrowe.

Much respect, as someone whose done a fair bit of winter trekking/backpacking it's the kind of thing I would love to do someday.   But honestly probably never will, just because of the dedication it would take for several years to raise, care for and train a dog team.

My mother was a breeder of Alaskan Malamutes before she switched to Shepherds.  I remember as a kid, her hooking a few of them up to the sled when it snowed in the winter.  She was also good friends with a few, very talented mushers.

I remember it being a lot of fun.   Sadly, there has been little snowfall in this area for quite a while around here.
