Maybe a good description of the crash, when it happened and what you were doing would give additional information.
Unless of course you were in contact with Skuzzy already and he just wanted this information.

I believe I was just flying in blue sky. I'm hazy on whether or not I should report crashes or just take it in stride.  Don't want to clog the bbs.

MIght be a Tech Suppport issue also, not a bug. Post the top 'third-ish' part of a DxDiag report here. This may get moved to Tech support in mean time.

I just had a similar crash in the main arena. Was flying a Hellcat at around 5k and there were no friends or enemies in icon range when it happened:

Had a disco last night in B26s.  No enemy contacts, was taking puffy ack from a CV, and was about 3 seconds from going bombs out on it.

I was getting terrible stutters and crashes (out of VRAM).  I had updated my AMD GPU drivers about the same time as the new patch. Unbenouced to me, the AMD update also installed HDMI sound drivers which I don't have devices hooked up to. Skuzzy had me eliminate these and disable my AMD HDMI sound devices. He also had me install RealTek drivers over the windows drivers for my sound card. This has eliminated all of my microstutters for the most part but was still getting crashes, just not as frequently. I'm up to about 15-20 discos this tour.

Anyhow, after messing around with all of the sliders, etc. I find my crashes are far less frequent with the Bump Map Buildings turned off. My theory is that there are some of these textures populating the RAM that are not getting "swaped out" for new ones as you move along the map. They just keep loading up until memory is full then...........crash.

If you have an AMD GPU, check under Device Manager, sound devices and make sure you don't have any AMD devices listed there. The problem with this is that if you don't have an AMD sound card it will be using up valuable memory space on your GPU.

I've noticed the same thing with textures, but it only seems to happen on certain maps.  I sat in the tower and did nothing but look around in a 360 degree circle and was able to crash my client on one of these.  Just watched the VMem go up and up and up.  If I stopped looking, it would stay still, but as soon as I looked around again the number would keep building.
