I'm not usually a fan of this type of drink but there are a very,very few brands that deliver exceptional taste.

This year I discovered:



Its rum.. but it tastes like strong cognac. No burn from alcohol but pure taste. Tac recommended!

Those are some nice rums.  Let me show you one to avoid wherever possible:



Wray & Nephew Jamaican Rum.  This nasty piece of work actually triggers the gag reflex upon taste, and that is because your body knows better than you do what NOT to put in your mouth.  If you actually manage to swallow this swill, you can look forward to burping up that nasty taste for several hours afterwards.

Interestingly enough, a few months after me & my poker buddies finished off this "present", we finally found out what that nasty smell and taste was - witch hazel.  Yes, witch hazel.  We discovered this because some skin cleanser that my wife uses smells exactly like this rum, and the main ingredient in the cleanser is witch hazel.  Next time I'll drink the skin cleaner first and use the rum to clean dirty pores.

Ive never tasted a good overproof, they used to be illegal over here, not sure if they still are. stuff like bacardi 151 is really only produced to keep the locals tanked, has nothing to do with flavour.


years ago a friend of mine (top barguy) worked in brazil for a year or so, came back with a couple of gallons of cachasa (sp?) in his luggage. nothing beats it for making a cuyprina (sp?), a truly great cocktail. a year or so later every decent bar was serving them
