I find the use of historical squads/etc very weird and slightly awkward (To say the least). Does anyone feel the same or agree on this?

I find it is a great tribute and a good way to learn a little history while having fun at the same time. These are THE reasons I started our virtual 91st BG, because there are others like myself that share that same sentiment. <S>

Knite was half right though, I ended the squad name quoting Monty Python's Knights who say "Ni!" because I can't remember how to spell the damn squad name.

Here's what Kemosabe really means:

I found the reply by Tilt comforting in my position of feeling awkward, anyone else find that (if they felt awkward in the first place)? :-)

Historical Squad names should be allowed, as it gives pride in to a squad as well as historical documentation of the squad. For example my former squad 367th Dynamite Gang has a very nice background that's quite detailed and interesting to read about.

It made me learn to fly the P47D40 and P38J, I had permission from the former real members of the 367th as well as the CO of the Virtual squadron to made a website for the Aces High squad.

Banning them would be idiotic and flat out stupid when there's more history in having them then making up some virtual squadron name.

I can't speak to anyone elses squadrons, but real vets of the 479th FG that our guys have been in contact with over the years have had positive reactions to the fact that their combat unit is still being remembered today.  I'm sitting here looking in our email archives at a message from a combat vet from the real fighter group, and it is nothing but positive.

Had the same reaction from an 80th vet when I sent him a screenshot of his bird.  Of course our old buddy Earl Miller had no problem flying with guys in a Airwarrior scenario when we put his wartime unit in.  Folks were thrilled to get to wing a cartoon Jug with him in a skin representing his wartime squadron.  He was very flattered that his P39 is skinned in AH too.
