Rook flyers...or Epic Fighter Sweeps?
« on: March 02, 2012, 09:45:10 AM »
I know we all have squads doing various things. Is there an interest to have a PonyD posse scheduled once or twice a week?

Could be a bad idea but thought I would throw it out there. What if we chose one or two times a week where we get a small group of dedicated PonyD drivers, up a fighter sweep and go terrorize the Bish and Knights? I'm not talking a vulch fest but find a base that's being capped and go bust the cap; See a big dar building three sectors behind enemy lines, take drop tanks, find it and kill it.

I figure going this route will not harm any existing squads, which is not my intent. Could generate some serious sorties. And for those of us on a tight schedule it allows us to plan ahead for action. Kind of like how they use to do Epic Tuesday or something. And yes, if we had PonyD drivers wanting to switch from Bish or Knight to get in on the action I'm fine with that. This is more about doing classic sweeps. Heck, I'd even be game to changing up birds every now and then. We could even swallow our pride and up in the same skin.

And by posting ahead it allows those who think they can stop a PonyD sweep (like Midway in his Spit8) time to get airborne and prove their point. Could make for some massive furballs. We could even request plane sets on other side??

Any takers? (Yes, includes Bish and Knight drivers.)

I don't see many pony drivers in game anymore. There are a lot that fly them but only one or two percent that can actually fight in them. The rest use them to run away.

You might have a point. On the flip side, other then the 80th there aren't a lot of 38 drivers. Just big, aluminum targets. haha

The good news, this should be viewed as its own dinner bell for those who like to eat PonyDs.

Rooks have already been doing this for the past week or so. I've got plenty of film of me and my squaddies flying to a fight, only to find 6+ pony D's at 15k+ flying formation and diving on us left and right, till we dive out, but they don't follow. Not sure who this group is, but I also have a film from a few nights ago where I took off from two bases away and came over the group at like 20K and chased them all home!  :devil

I'd consider myself an "ex" Pony flyer. I dedicate my attention to the Hog now. I don't feel like making any commitments but I might wing up with an organized Pony force if I knew when they were taking off ahead of time.

Probably the Ta's Aerofighters or rather, Ta's Peacemakers as of two weeks ago. We probably do at least one pony sweep a night.

What is more fun, and I can say this with confidence, is to go on a fighter sweep with squad mates in an aircraft that is a challenge and NOT of the norm.  When a player and 8-12 (or more) of his squaddies show up and ruin a horde in C205's, 109G-2's, 190A-5's, Franks, P40N's, P38's, Spit 9's, or other such aircraft that can be expected to stand and fight and not be the typical pick-n-run plane, nothing is more gratifying.  The trouble is, the knee jerk ride seems to be a crutch plane for players who think they need to be in the "best".  The P51D is just that ride, too.

Step away from the norm and live a little!   :aok
