It makes perfect sense to use the F35... the F14 garnered a huge following after 'Top Gun' was released and Lockheed Martin is hoping for the same publicity. I'm sure Lockheed Martin/USAF will cooperate as much as they can with the movie makers.

The military is looking down the barrel of a lot of budget cuts in the near future. If Lockheed Martin/USAF can get public support behind the F35, it will be far less likely to suffer cuts.
I predict some leet midair moves by switching to VTOL mode midflight to throw those pesky Lybians a curveball. Tap on the brakes and they'll fly right by...

As far as a plot goes...

They should just let a spy steal an F-35...  :noid

And then let test-pile-it Maverik [Tommy boi] pursue  :airplane: in his [real] P-51 armed with six mini lasers...  :O to shoot it down...

Will he runnnnstang-bugout...   :bolt: ...will he fight....   :rock ... "Talk to me  Goose..."

Highway to the Dangerzone indeed...  :aok

I agree, but at least with the first movie, LM's chariot had already passed carrier quals (a kinda BFD for _Navy_ aircraft).  They should wait for it to get the green light before going ahead with the movie, otherwise it will create another wave of F-14 fans cutting their wrists open.

I know most find it hard to believe, because it hasn't been featured in any movies, but the Super Hornet is actually quite awesome.

I would change the plot. Throw in some Nato action. The tension is around 'old school' tactics versus new fandangled stuff. The best is the Euro-Typhoon having its internal gun removed. No need for guns since we know they can own the world with AMRAAM and AIM-9X. Russia get's giggy with it, develops their long rumored plasma coat that makes planes invisible to radar. They are on patrol over new tension point of Georgia (Caspian region, not the one north of Florida) and up sneaks some Su-33s or Mig-29s with the plasma. No one spots them until its too late. The Euro-fighters are in serious trouble until Cpt "Maverick" Cruise, unable to lock on the 'now you see it, now you don't' Su/Migs closes infor the proverbial knife fight in a telephone booth. Quickly makes the kill with his 20mm, escorts the sad Euro-fighters home and spends the evening with some hotties.

Iceman is now flying commercial for Delta. Slider is teaching High School JROTC.

This sounds about right.

If you don't know, I'd suggest finding out who Bill "Iceman" Sweetman is as well as Karlo "Slider" Kopp.

There's a bit of an inside joke there.
