Bar I think you can still go to the minecraft site and try out the classic version for free.  Granted it will just be creative and missing a whole bunch of the available things you can do in the current version.  It should still give you a taste of the game.

Multiplayer servers make the game a lot better. I'm actually building up a server map right now before it goes live, how ever I have to wait a bit for bukkit to make a recommended build for MC 1.2

Run a server with 8 guys, that was our February map with the Industrial mod, ww2 gun mod and hot air balloon mod (For transportation)

Our March map is a whole lot cooler

March map, its a sky base with a few buildings and a hanger underneath for our balloons






Rooms are spacious and every room has electric lighting and electric machines as well as storage compartments, we also have a small bank for money to buy things

ok i downloaded 1.23 but the server listings are showing nada for me? how do i get into the servers?

You'll need someone to give you an IP, or you can hunt down IP's via some random site.  Talk to 1701E, he'll probably let you on the server.
