Steel Battalion: Heavy Armor
« on: March 12, 2012, 03:43:07 AM »
Anyone played it? Its an Xbox game that comes with what appears to be a 600 dollar control panel used to pilot the mech you use to storm the beaches in NYC after the soviets take over the US in 2013??? The trailer is brutal although unpractical but hey its video games right? Plus we can always wish a little

You might want to do a bit more reading. The controller was for the old Steel Battalion, this game is supposed to be controlled only with Kinect.

I really have no idea why.

Wish I could just get my hands on the controller by itself. That could probably be turned into a control panel for a flight sim easily.

Yup I still have my old SB controller and pedals; I dig them out of the closet every now and then. The original SB was set up as a simulator that tried to mimic "real" life as much as it could; for example if you didn't eject from your exploding VT (vertical tank is what this game called it's mechs) your character was killed and made unplayable; you would have to start a new campain with a new character. The original price tag was around $300 and that bought you the 3ft wide, 38 button/switch, 3 pedal control system and the game. If you look carfully at the controller you will even see a button for the windshield wipers; and if I remember correctly the VT start up process required 3 buttons and 5 switches to be manipulated in the correct order to be successfull.

The top two pictures you posted are from Steel Battalion: Heavy Armor and the bottom on is of the original SB control setup.  SB: Heavy Armor is a different game and is reported to make use of the standard xbox 360 controller and the kinect at the same time.

There is a way to use the old SB controller to play Mechwarrior 4 but it is beyond my meager computer skills.

The real problem is anyone should feel like they can come to this forum and make a wish without being treated in a derogatory manner.  The only discussion should be centered around whether it would work, or how it would work and so on always in a respectful manner.
