Inappropriate dumb question

I have an alx (slot1) board and upgraded my rig from a PII 233 to a cel 466 (socket7) with an asus "slotket." I believe you can go up to the cel 533 with this setup(66 fsb). The 466 was more cost effective for me at the time. Good luck

Gents, I might be confused but my good ol' Abit BX6 rev.2 is clicking happily at anything up to 150-odd MHz. I tested it with both 112 and 133MHz FSB, no problems that I could see - booted up, loaded Win98 etc. I run it for an hour or so - there was no smoke coming out and the CPU temp didn't hit critical levels.

Didn't go higher cuz memeory is 133 and the prices had gone up since I bought it, didn't want to fry the memory. Or is it BH? Hmmmm... Don't want ot open the box...

What a slap in the face.  You have a stone age PC and you still kill us like rats in a barrel.  WTG Hangtime!  I fear the day that you get a new PC.

Hey guys; thanks for the help. Sure do appreciate it. I'm lookin for an in-stock 466 celeron now; and have been to the supermicro site fer the bios flash. Hopefully; the new processor'll get my frames up a hair; which will get my SA back where it needs ta be. The cat can't wait

Meantime, it's back to buffin fer bishland.

Hangtime, you will need a so called slocket adapter for the 466.  Not all work with LX chipsets, so keep trying until you find one.  (My MB is an Intel "Atlanta" ie AL440LX using bios 14.)  Also note, you will need to keep your old processor, because for some reason you can't do bios upgrades with a slocket card installed.

Gents!

I got it! My shiny new celeron 466 came today along with a Tekron 370>Slot 1 adapt card; and after reading thru the various destrution cautions and conflicting diagrams; MFG's exclusions to warranties, !!!WARNING!!!! labels and such... I said 'wot da hell', set the adapter to auto, set the main board for it's highest clock speed, plugged it in and WALLAH! The damn thing actually worked. The new bios spotted it right off, and even windows spooled up withoutta hitch. I had more grief with the bios upgrade (took 20 min) than I did with the processor upgrade.

Frames up to 36 on the ground; and never less than 32 when low flyin thru hangars at A1 with guns blazing.

I am Back in fighters again.   booohhhhhrah!

Bloom25... many thanks, and kudos. I owe yah a big cold frosty one. Or two. Hell; we'll make a night of it.   Yer advice with the bios and the slocket made it possible to get this damn antique functional fer at least another year, and all fer less than 15min work and $105.00 bucks including shipping.

Best upgrade I ever made. Thanks again, man!

I'm so psyched; I've ordered an new 19" monitor w/ a .23mm pitch.

Cya's all up, soon as Hairball feels better.
