Torpedo Plane Sub-Category?
« on: March 15, 2012, 06:52:37 PM »
With the recent trend of creating a sub-category of spotter aircraft, could we possibley persue the idea of a torpedo plane sub category within the game and MA (and primarily its CV AAA settings)?

We can add exceptions of unique variables specific to their own sub-category.  Ideas that can be tried within this new sub-category could include:
-Allow torpedos dropped the pervious sortie to not despawn imediatley (ie: 2-5 minute delay).
-Give this category a AAA lethality adjuster (make it lethaler or kinder)
-Make AAA 60% less if altitude is maintained below carrier deck (or X) height
-Special landing/kill messages (ie: Bob sank Z-ships for a total of Y-tonage).

---------------

I feel like they're neglected aircraft with even further neglected roles in the MAs currently.  They already didn't have a lot going for them, historicly - and here in AH it's worse (they're still easy targets, just without much chance for success - even with surprise).

I may be wrong, but the only times I can recall seeing recent success with torpedo planes was with a horde of them in addition to having some surprise.  I still don't think they sucessfuly sunk the CV though, manned gunners saw to that.  Not long afterwards though I think a pony or two came in and finished the job with a dive n run (which apear to have mixed success and survivability rates against CVs, and is the prefered method I think)

As if the guns couldn't traverse that low? I like your thinking :aok

Torpedo planes require knowledge and practice to develop skills. Keep an eye out for Rolex's bomber clinic.

With the new icons, you can come in extremely low, from an unexpected direction and half the time, they won't even see you. Too many guys just up from the direction they're all heading to and gets torn to bits.

the game is concentrated on combat, not on shaking the screen.

You're still going to get shredded by the CV ack though.

Last time I went on a torpedo run (Ju88s), I got to the auto ack range and then I dropped. Pulled out right after and all I had was a oil hit.

Ah, I was waiting for the first "realistic" reference.  I think my suggestion is vastly more realistic.

Could all the guns traverse that low?

Would every gun, that could, automaticly open up every time?

I think realistic is that specific batteries, on specific ships, in specific locations, had a specific and disciplined zone or quadrant of airspace they were responcible for.  Thus, from any given angle, they enemy would encounter resistance, but not an all-gun salute.

This is more dubious comming from a trainer than I think you intended - so then, as you preach: you've successfuly been, while deploying proper (and many otherwise) techniques and procedures, torpedoeing CVs in the MAs?   :ahand

I only have had marginal success when there are other players around distracting the enemy as much as possible, and the task force is already substantialy weakened below even 50% average AH fleet strenth (a handful of destroyers, a cruiser and a CV).

I am not expereinceing this with the new icons, I am infact getting picked up by manned guns out at a further distance now with the increased icon range (even surfing the waves).  I have to go flanking at much further distances now, but still, can get picked up when I decide to turn in and finally aproach.  Can you give an example?

If I had a gun with 3 bullets and I was locked in a room with Bin Laden, Hitler, Saddam and Zipp...  I would shoot Zipp 3 times.

How is this dubious? Are you claiming that you attended Rolex's clinic, understand how to set up your attack, practiced until you acquired some skill, and you still have no success so the game must be changed to make it easier?
