AH limited to 60fps
« on: April 05, 2012, 08:42:35 AM »
I've just got a new video card and monitor as part of my new PC build and will get a new CPU and MB next month. The idea of the upgrade is to let me use two monitors as an extended desktop for skinning and to run AH on a single 120 fps monitor to let me get to more than 60 fps in the game.

I installed the second monitor (Benq XL6420T) and video card (GTX 680) last night and they work fine. Framerates are similar to the old GTX 260 video card as the PC is CPU limited until the rest of the upgrade.

My problem is that AH won't get beyond 60 fps however I degrade the video options to improve performance. I also tried running AH with both vsync enabled or disabled but either way 60 fps is the most I ever get.

The Benq that AH is running on is set up to run at 120 fps in Windows, the second monitor is set to run at its max rate of 60 fps. Is the problem that AH will only run at the same rate as the slowest of the pair of monitors on the extended desktop? Or is there any way that Windows can report a monitor is running at 120 fps but it is only running at 60 fps?

We have no control over vertical sync.  The video card handles that.  If Windows/DirectX has decided to use the slowest rate between the two monitors, there is really nothing we can do about it.

If it is using the slower rate because of the slower monitor, then try removing that monitor and see if it changes.

Also note, many, many LCD monitors claim 120Hz refresh rates when in reality they are running at 60Hz and using software to spoof the rest of the 60Hz.
